How Much fluid for V8 M6 Trans and Rear Diff?
I am about to change my fluids and im unsure how much exactly i need to fill them up with? Where do you check the levels? And is there a specific torque spec i should be reaching for?
Any advice greatly appreciated!! Last edited by Nighthawk89; 08-15-2013 at 03:07 PM. |

You will need 4 quarts of DEX 3 ATF fluid (I prefer Mobil1 Symthetic DEX3)for the 6 speed manual transmission on the LS3 engine cars. The shifts wil be smoother that way. Royal Purple has some good fluid as well but it will cost a LOT more.
You need a half bottle of GM limited slip additive plus 1 quart of proper weight gear oil for the rear end. Don't try to read the bottle on the Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF - You will think you have the wrong stuff but it IS the right stuff. Look for the SYNTHETIC DEXRON 3 formula fluid designation. The ATF formulated for newer GM cars (DEX 5 for example) is NOT the right fluid regardless what the label says about the years it is compatible with. You might like to have a funnel and 4 feet of clear rubber tubing to fill the transmission fluid from the top of the engine. After you put the drain plug back in the rear axle, you add the limited slip additive to the rear first and then the gear oil after that. -Mark. |

There's usually enough room in the top of the gear lube bottle to add the slip additive, which makes it easier to get into the rear end. Minus that, you could always put some of the gear lube in, add the additive to the remainder and continue filling.

Do you have to have the additive with something like RP 75w-90?
How do i check to make sure i put the correct amount in both the trans and the rear?? |

Some gear lube comes with the additive and some doesn't. Be careful if you are trying to keep your warrant. RP and other brands will not be covered for warrant work FYI.
Fill it till it comes out. Make sure you are on a level surface and the car is level. I used GM fluid and it made a huge difference in shifting....way smoother and no warranty concerns.
