So I'm sitting at a light, and this huge van for handicapped people,doesn't see me and comes into my lane while I am stopped behind traffic (not moving at all). Ends up scuffing paint on my driver side fender, and detaching the front bumper by the side marker. His van has no damage at all. He tried to leave the scene but after realizing it was a crime, decides to pull over. He refuses to exchange insurance info, so I get the cops and get a police report...Some people are just jerks!

I would estimate the damage is <500 to repaint. Haven't been involved in an accident in NYC before, so not sure what I should do here.

As NYC is a no-fault state, do I need to claim it with my own insurance or can I go after his? I wouldn't want to claim it with mine as its probably not worth it. However, this guy was a total prick and I wish I could recover some of the damages at least. What do you guys think?

If you have his insurance information, turn it in to your insurance company, make sure you provide his insurance information to them.

Your insurance will handle your claim, and go after them for their money.

However, even though it sounds bad, it will show up on your car fax. I would get a copy of the police report, contact the driver after getting an estimate, and see if you can work something out. You could probably even find parts on here and supply them to a body shop which would be cheaper than having them purchase them.

legacy i think you should contact the shop that did your mods i think they can easily help you out
