For some extra green backs at the right hole in the wall smog station, you can get anything to pass smog

Unless you're going to pair the shorty's with high flow cats or catless, it's pretty much a waste of $$, from a performance standpoint. The ARH headers are probably the only ones that have shown a definitive performance increase and it wasn't much. Add to that, they cost as much their LT's and the price/hp goes WAY up. If you just want some shiney tubes in your engine bay, by all means, go for it.

The TSP 1 7/8 headers or 2" run 460 bux!! They are easy as hell to put on and off of the stock system or catback! Just keep your system intact and slap them back on when its time to see the administrators of "The People's Republic of California"!

Technically you can't change anything on the exhaust system. But as I understand it the laws have changed to make the California smog check similar to many other states. No more sniffer test on post 2000 cars, just a visual and a check for engines codes.

I have JBA shorties and their high flow cats setup. The shorties are carb legal in Cali, hiflows arent but can easliy swap out to stock to test at smog time in 4 years.Yes shorties arent worth alot by themselves but with hiflows to open it up I got about 20 hp, and another 12 with a tune, 32 in all.It isnt as much as LT'S but good if you dont want the hassle of lt's and Cali smog, or being stopped by the cops. Oh, the tune wont be detected as being different then stock either the way it is done and they cant tell anyway, no matter what they say(From a little birdie..lol)

Get your smog certificate first before installing LT and CAI.

Header swap takes about 3 hours with ramps and hand tools. Get long tubes and every few years just swap it out with the stock manifolds.

32rwhp from JBA shorties and mids with a tune is almost as much as all Long Tubes on the market and you can remain legal in California except the mids. Those take 20 minutes to change out for testing in a few years.

Here is a build showing the gains of JBA shorties that are legal in California and you can make 620rwhp no issue.

ARH and JBA are the only shorty headers that I know of that are CARB legal. You still can't legally change the cats, but they are easy enough to swap out.

Best regards,

You have about 3 of 4 more years before having to worry about it. Headers are one of the easier mods to do on these cars as well. 3 hours of work every few years...whats the hold up?
