Well, I got it done thanks to my gear-head buddy with a set of NPT taps. It's gonna take a while to deal with the pics, and I want to put some miles on it, data-log, and re-check the LTFTs so stay tuned...

But at least I can say: No more oily RX breather with the puzzling check valve, and no goofy 1960s chrome breather that ships with the Vararam!!! - a closed-loop system restored.

I'm too tired to put together anything with more details (probably will in a new thread in a couple of days). Here is a quick pic of the final set-up:

It's hard to see, but yes, the tube fitting is just behind the exit port in the MAF. The funky coupling of the 3/8 hose and the OEM tube is effective, but will be addressed later. BTW - so far 30 miles on it w/no issues.

Interesting, I can't wait to see the rest of the pictures and the results of how it affected your fuel trims.

Here is a link to a video of the God-awful noise I had with my RX breather installed. The noise did not come from the breather itself, but low down on the driver's side of the engine, near the A/C compressor (on my LFX).

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that it may be coming from the seal where the oil dipstick tube enters the block. The noise would stop immediately if I loosened the breather enough to allow more air into the valve cover, or if I pulled the dipstick out slightly.

Warning: Do not have your volume turned up very far if you watch this. It's loud, and VERY annoying:

No, but it's now adorning my work bench in the garage.

If I had turbos that sounded like that, I wouldn't have them very long.

As i was readin through the thread here I was wondering the same if RX is the only company that make breathers. What are some other companies that make them? But from the looks of things it seems like most on here have RX breathers. So I guessing they are the sites favorite product (guessing)

rx breather a scam?

There are breathers in just about every auto part catalog out there. The unique thing about the the RX was the regulated check valve which kept air flow in to below what would throw off the MAF. The valve however proved to be really trouble some. Supposedly RX has fix this ???
