Test drove a ZL1 today

This thread scares me guys, I just sold my bmw m6, to get a ZL1.. I test drove a SS and had it going hard out on the highway and it sounded nice but I looked down and I was only going 80mph..
The dealer told me I needed a ZL1 it will smoke my car... Someone tell me they have smoked a M6!
I'm going to get one anyways but if there not much more faster than the SS I will be dosapointed...

cvbfireman, don't listen to a salesman. Drive the cars you're interested in and make your OWN choice.

It's all about being happy in your vehicle. The ZL1 is more than I ever expected in a Camaro. So I'm very pleased. I think people get lulled into the ZL1's great way of being easy to drive on the boulevard and can act as tame as you want it to be.

Buy what flips up your skirt. If it's not a ZL1, so be it, but don't discount it because it doesn't have a push button start or some other un-needed luxury. And it's not slow.

The M6 and ZL1's performance numbers are nearly identical on paper but the ZL1 handily out performs it on a road course. Going down the boulevard the ZL1 will turn more heads. It can't touch the M6's interior, yet it has everything you need and nothing you don't.

I was neutral, however the fact that the ZL1 comes standard with all the go fast goodies one would need to be competitive on the track and they are options on the Mustang really persuaded me. A GT500 fully loaded is closer to 70 grand whereas for 55k the ZL1 is packed with almost everything.

Also this video gave the impression that the Mustang is extremely fun, yet bordering on being dangerous to push hard. That scared me away from it, but it sure was fun to watch Randy try and tame the beast.

Some testers have gotten 3.8 seconds on the 0-60 in the manual. 3.9 is what GM advertises for the Automatic.

The Z28 is all about being lighter and the automatic probably weighs more. It will be really interesting to see just how many Z28s they are able to move this year and next. Many may be excited at the hype, but in the end it takes a real man to buy a car without AC. (I know it is an option, but still)

My brother in law has a BMW M6, and I pulled away from him from a stopped position. We shut it down at around 120, and I was pulling away from him the whole time. Had several car lengths on him by the time we stopped. We were both stock.

Awesome!! I just didn't like all the talk of it not being much more than the SS, I'm on the hunt today, hopefully I will be in one by the end of the week.

I have noticed that if you carefully read into those comments it's from non ZL1 owners.

When you get your car and pull out of the lot, Do this one time and you will know you made the right choice, You got PTM backing you up, The exhaust note is freaken awesome, Track your car with warranty, There are not a lot of zl1's around where I live, I could go on and on about the z. I think you made the right choice.

I already feel like I have also, I just cant decide between a 13 or 14, and if I go 13 what price range I should be looking at since the 14s are already out

No way that's a stock exhaust? Mine didn't sound like that, atleast not to my knowledge, lol.

One thing, you have driven through to me is that you seem to have something to prove. I would suggest you try to prove it at the drag strip and not the road course. Congrats on your new car though. I'm sure it handles like a dream, though maybe not like my dream.

It's a SHELBY GT500 COBRA. Ya, so much to prove there... but you did suceed in making me chuckle. If you pass by a Shelby in your dream...it was because the Shelby allowed it.

Some days the ZL1 does better, some days the GT500. In my personal experience, after changing out the stock brake fluid and brake pads out on both cars, the fade issues mentioned by some are much less of an issue. I do agree that, overall, the ZL1 brakes do feel better and inspire more confidence, but it's not like the pedal is going to the floor on the GT500 or I can't bring it down from speed in a respectable manner.

Still, GM diehards are always going to suggest that the GT500 can't turn and the Ford guys are going to comment on what a pig the ZL1 is. Just live with it and move on.
