I'm fine with the basic set of features, the main thing I really love is the back camera. Other than that, I'm fine with the old school AC unit. The radio system isn't super old school, at least it has satellite radio. I would rather have that and the lower costs over some fancy smancy AC unit and other crap that you wouldn't hardly use and jack a $30K car up to $45K, but just my opinion.

Here's your answer. LS3 power, keyless start ( I don't know if that means push button or not), head up, dual zone climate, navigation all standard, full size spare and suroof optional, all the candy. Sell your Camaros and buy this instead.

You want comfortable seats for long rides? You want solid steel body panels that don't 'oil can'? You want a 5 star crash rating all around? You want an independent rear suspension? (....I can go on with this list for hours...) As you think about all of this - -keep a couple of things in mind: 1. - the team drives Camaros -- 2. We all didn't fall off the turnip truck last evening........ 3. we have some pretty smart people working on this car (me excepted!) and they sweat blood over every decision. Frankly, I shake my head at times when people think we haven't a clue...... Now - on to the Automatic Temp control. One of the reasons we created the Camaro Enthusiast Advisory Board (The Camaro Disciples) is to discuss issues just like this. Now - reading thru this thread (and I quit before I got to the end ...) you'll see that you can't get everyone to agree 100 percent on anything........ Yes - some want Auto Temp control (...me included..) but price is also an issue. We can give you anything you want - BUT -- at what price? Making things even more complex: Some say "I want heated seats" - and others say "forget heated seats! I want hideaway headlights!" - while still others say "I don't want either of those - I want crank windows...." See where I"m going with this? We can't offer a gazillion build combinations - I don't care WHAT we did in 1968 - believe me - I can bury you in facts.........there's a reason why NO manufacturer builds tons of build combinations - one of the biggest reasons is quality - another is COST - we try to make these magnificent machines as affordable as possible....yes, including the Mighty ZL1.......... Frankly, we weren't sure that heated seats would be well-received - but the disciples for the most part -- felt that they were. (I want to say that 70 percent said 'yes' -- ) ......turns out that they were correct........ As we look at future generations, these issues (such as automatic climate control) come back into the conversation...........

I did not know anything about the "camaro disciples" that sounds like a really nice touch in car manufacturing! Me myself work at Volvo here in Sweden so I do know a bit about car manufacturing. But I must confess that I haven't thought so much about the whole development part, especially when we talk about a car like the camaro with such a heritage in the trunk. With all that said, my opinion about with the cc still stands, the thing is, for me, electric adjustable seats, backup camera, ba stereo with sub and so on are all luxury items for me. Thats why I got a little bit amazed that it had old style ac. Now this isn't a deal breaker for me, not at all. Keep in mind that I have ordered this car unseen, un driven with a waiting time exceeding a half year. And as I said, blaiming my government or not, paid 65000 usd for it. So cc or no cc im going to drive the sh.t out of my camaro and have a big permagrin on all the time when it finally arrives!!

The simple fact is all of these "do dads" that you want - start stop, climate control etc require open heart surgery to do. They need to be in from a ground up build, not a change you can make year to year. The recent facelift was very minor and in no way cracked the dash for stuff you guys want. It takes a new generation of car and you will get it all in the next camaro as it will be cost effective as it's designed in the car. The new vette dash will be the base for the new features....
Look at the Impala SS above - the stuff was designed into the car. It's that simple. Scott can't say it, but all the stuff you guys want will be in the C6...

Thanks Scott for your excellent info, you said it better than I ever could have even tried. I work for a large company as a technology director and when people ask me to implement a solution, I tell them I can do anything for them, its how much do they want to spend and how long would they like it to take. They generally get the point.

It should be an OPTION that people can pay for if they want. Some of the cheapest cars on the market have this as an option.
Honestly, every single feature on a car could be argued with, "hey, some people want it, some don't, so we can't please everyone". But certain features become commonplace. Auto climate control is one of them. It's funny that people say that a muscle car shouldn't have this or that but we have AC, power windows, power mirrors, auto dim mirrors, onstar, dual power seats, heated seats, HUD, MYLink with satellite and NAV, remote start, ambient lighting, etc.. How does auto climate control not fit in with any of that? How many other muscle cars on the market don't offer it? How many other cars period don't offer it? You want bare bones muscle, go Z28. Or offer a low tech package for other trims. Auto climate control should be in an option package in 2013. I'd pay a premium for a tech package that had it. I honestly hate constantly adjusting the temperature and fan speed as the interior cools or heats. |

Some time ago, they teased of an Executive Express package. That had me written all over it. But maybe there's not enough me's in the market? With packages like these, I could see guys who go for Audi A5's and BMW 3 series giving the Camaro a look. |
