I don't care if I break the shroud but what's the easiest way to take it off with out taking everything apart?

You have to take everything apart. It's not that bad.

You have to pull the coil pack brackets and fuel rails. Then you can pull the rubber strap and pull the bolts out of the manifold. Then use some pliers to loosen the clamp on the brake booster where it connects to the reservoir on the firewall and pull the hose off. It's just a vacuum hose.

Be careful when you pull the manifold out. The brake booster hose wraps around the back side of the cam position sensor. You just have to make sure you lift the manifold/hose up and over the sensor without getting hung up.

I had mine out and back installed in about an hour. You'll need a GM fuel line release tool. $4 at O'Reillys IIRC.

It's not exactly what you're after, but it does have instructions for removing the manifold in there a ways. It's just simple wrenching. You'll be fine once you get going. Just go slow when you're ready to start pulling the manifold off the top of the engine (or sliding it out the front I should say). The back 2 bolts will want to keep falling back in their holes. A towel under the fuel rail disconnect is a good idea too. It'll spill a little fuel when you separate the lines.

Tighten the bolts from the center out when you reinstall it... being careful not to over tighten. I don't know if that pdf has the torque specs, but it's not much.

Thanks hemp I appreciate that, I know this is gunna be more then an hour job just to take out making sure I do it right but one more question

Lets say when I get the shroud off there's a crack under it, can I fix it? Is there some sort of plastic weld I can use or do I need a new one?

I would be very surprised if you found a crack. It might be worth your while to really check the hoses you have access to for EVAP and PCV without taking the mani off. The only thing you're gonna find under the mani is a blown/pinched intake port gasket. I don't think a new manifold is all that expensive either. I bet you can find someone around here that replaced theirs with a FAST or something similar.

Busy busy! We did a car show on Saturday. Mowing + family dinner Sunday. Tried to fix my little brother's car + more mowing last night. Fellow local camaro club member catback install tonight. Lots of cars and mowing! Not such a bad deal.

Oh, and Mike... you're taking the whole manifold out if you think you need to. You can pull the shroud if you want (once it's out), but you'll find nothing but a layer of insulation and more plastic underneath.

Yes I understand thank you, I've checked almost everything had a couple friends check also, the only thing we have done to make the hissing/whistling change is move the shroud so that's why I would think something under there is cracked

Haha. I bet that will run like shit ! Does the MAF fit? Is it even close to the same location?

Hopefully you're able to find it once you get in there. High pitched noises suck balls to chase down. They really do come from everywhere.
