Did you buy from a buy here, pay here dealership or a Chevy dealership? Sometimes the buy here, pay here places have a tracking device on your car. It quite possible that OnStar is a way they track the car if need be.

I bought it from a full-fledged huge Chevrolet dealership, very nice place, and great coffee!

However, I have read that some rental car places do put the GPS chip in the car and ding you if you go cross borders or whatever.
