Gas Tank Question

First of all, sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section.

Okay, so I own a 2013 2SS Camaro and I was low on fuel. I went to put gas and it got filled up with 12-13 gallons, $42.50 which is really weird because when I'm usually on E, it fills up with $60-65. It does show that its all the way full. Should I be worried? Anyone know why this would happen?

Edit: I know its suppose to hold 19 gallons. I was on E and I had the Low Fuel warning for atleast 10 miles. Also, the low fuel warning came up when It showed I only had 30 miles left.

low fuel warning comes on when there is 4 gallons left in the tank (EX. 4 galllons at about 18 MPG means you have about 72 miles before empty)

Actually I was looking at how many miles I had left before the Low Warning comes up. It always pops up when I have 30 miles left on my car. Always has since I've had my car.

Who knows, maybe your digital meter for Miles left was going off your avg MPG because you were stomping it so it told you that you were low? :]

Theres some variation in the pumps too. Some rip you off, some give you a little bonus.

Take a 5 gal can there and see if it actually pumps 5 gals.

Pumps are certified, and if you are at a name brand station, there is no way they would risk "ripping you off" by giving you less than they actually did. Plus, if they were doing that, it would have shown it took more fuel than expected, not less.

To the OP, fuel gauges on cars are not a precision instrument in my opinion. I would not worry about it. Get to know your fuel gauge, and occasionally check your mileage the old fashioned way to know where you really are. I am sure your car is fine!

Wow, I have seen more than one report showing pumps are not always accurate. Here are a few from a quick google search...
http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/cheating.asp
http://www.jsonline.com/news/29276359.html
http://voices.yahoo.com/are-gas-reta...t-1499149.html

Op, I wouldn't worry about it if it is only a one time deal. Use another station and see if it still happens, if not go back to the other station and get "free" gas until they fix it! If it still happens your sending unit or gauge may be going bad. Take it to dealer if in warranty.

Slight Jacking of thread....

MANY, MANY years ago a friend bought a VW Bug and was bragging about his MPG - 35 miles per gallon, could go a week before a fill up. The next couple of weeks it's 40 mpg, then 50 mpg! Can't stop bragging how it keeps getting better all the time.
Then it suddenly drops to 35 mpg, next week 20 mpg and 10 mpg.
Turns out his neighbors started ADDING gas to his tank for a few weeks then they started siphoning it out.... all to drive him nuts!

i put 19 gals in a 17 gal tank once and there was gas in the tank and the filler neck does not hold 2 gal. It shut off automatically at 19gal. It also depends how fast the pump puts gas into your tank. if its to fast it will shut off too soon. If your putting gas in after it shuts off you shouldn't. The manual says not to because it can cause problems with the emissions or something.
