I screwed up badly, very very bad

I was going to do an oil change myself this morning on my 2ls, long story short I managed to break the oil filer cap, and dont know what to do exept for cursing and feeling like an a$$
There was a thread similar to my problem a while back but no conclusion...
Can anybody tell me the parts number???

Link to old thread:

Thanks for your help,, also feel free to remind me what an idiot i am

Here is a part number for a 2011 ls v6. 12583470
Here is the web site with part diagram. I guessing it is part number 24

You could try and use strap wrench on it, oil filter strap wrench, channel locks.. You can make more room if you take the air filter and housing off. You have remove 2 10mm bolts and loosen up the band that connects the upper housing to the round tube. A 5 min job.

..there is a special tool that fits over the end of the filter where you use a 3/8" extension and drive. That avoids using a band type wrap around old school type filter removal tool.

Think he said oil filler cap( where you put the oil in the engine) not the Filter.

Accidents happen. Don't beat yourself up over it. Kudos to you for getting in there to try to change it yourself.

Whatever you do DON'T plug the hole with a rag ... someone in a BMW did that a few years ago and it got sucked into the upper intake manifold and wrapped itself around the camshafts IIRC. Was 1 of the better powned stories of the time as I recall.

I don't understand how you broke the cap. Assuming the 1LS has a oil filter resevoir atop the engine on the driver's side (like my old 1LT had)... how do you do this? I always just hand tightened the cap and then gave it another 1/4 turn (or so) with a socket wrench and was good to go. I think I'm remembering that correctly.

I was trying to remove it, it did not budge, at first, then y gave it a tap in the opposite direction, (gently) then back to see If I could knock it loose, it did not budge then I waited another hour for the engine too cool down some more I figured it was hot and expanded therefore tightening.. When came back I tried again and thats when It broke...snapped right off with very little force
