Transmission flush?

My friend who is a mechanic told me that our transmissions should be flushed and filter changed and new fluid put in around 36,000 miles. He stated it is the easiest service that will make sure our trannys last longer. Has anyone done this or heard of this? I am not doubting my friend, I am curious about this maintenance.

Do you have an auto or manual? I have the L99, 6sp automatic, and there aint even a dipstick to check it. Just have to hope and pray the sensor works as designed. Not even sure how to add tranny fluid on the car, should look, maybe even read the owner's manual. Yet they are guaranteed for 100k or 5yrs, which is nice. So glad trannies got better, F Aamco, bastards.

I have an automatic in mine. I haven't even looked for a dipstick to think about it.

Don't bother flushing it unless you are rebuilding it. Flushing the tranny has been known to dislodge debris and cause an issue later down the road that would otherwise not be an issue.

However the fluid should be drained and a new filter be put in every 5 years or 100k miles (or half this if you tow a lot). 36k miles is way early but like everything else maintenance everyone has their own opinion on when it should be done (I know someone who swears by doing this every 25k) but 100k miles is the industry standard.

As for ease, there is a DIY on how to change the fluid in the auto in the DIY section. It's not the easiest thing in the world to do like your buddy claims but you can do it in your drive way if you have a couple hours and two jacks (ramps wont work since it's not recommended to drive the car up and down the ramps multiple times with no fluid or pan. We don't want dirt getting in the tranny.).

My owners manual says to change the fluid at 60,000 miles. Even the dealer ship said i would be wasting money at 36,000. got 40,000 on it now.

In the 2011 owners manual chapter 11 page 6 says
Quote:
First Engine Oil Change After Every 160 000 km/100,000 Miles

. Automatic transmission fluid
change (normal service).
See Automatic Transmission
Fluid on page 10‑15.
I also checked the 2010 owners manual and on chapter 10 page 5 it says the same thing.

Ok, I stand corrected. I was reading the Recommened Service Schedule that the Dealer gives you when you buy the car. It States:

60,000 miles
Induction Service
Transmission Service
Cooling System Service
Alignment
Rotate and Balance Tires
Replace Cabin Air Filter as needed
Replace Wiper Blades as needed.

We reccomend Auto trans fluid and filter change every 50K miles. Heat is the enemy of trans fluid.

Yo, Mr. Draco,

In bold type above you posted the following:

First Engine Oil Change After Every 160 000 km/100,000 Miles

That is sure to stir up the oil change hornet's nest around here. Are you suggesting the first engine oil chage is after every 100k miles? That seems a bit on the extreme side....

If you read the manual it says to do these services during your first oil change after that many miles. So after you pass 100k miles, on your next oil change it is recommended to do that service, aka your first oil change after 100k.

It is not saying to wait until 100k before you do your first oil change ever on the car.

50,000 is the dealership standard, flush at 50, at 100 flush and filter

Had mine changed at 30k, almost out of curiosity if it would help with some roughy shifting. It did.
