is the ZL1 vert really only able to go 155mph?

I know there is a thread about no ptm, but that just means you have to do all the track drivng yourself, like ptm5 lol but cant the limiter be tuned out ? I havent asked fastlane yet if it was done, but if i have 600 plus rwhp and cant go over 155 someone else can own this this then ? help before i sell my month old z.

Yes, the 155 speed limiter can be tuned out. May I ask where you're planning to drive faster than 155? Are you adding roll protection to your vert? It's my understanding the 155 speed limiter is there because Chevy has not certified the top above that speed.

just tune out the speed limiter and your good. its not a deal breaker at all. if yours is already tuned then it should be fixed for you already

I thought all RS models were limited to 155, including the V6's, the RS wheels and Pirellis allow for the higher speed, right? Non RS models are like 118 or something?

The ZL1 and 1LE should have a higher limit, IMO, but I have no idea if they do, ha!

All SS's regardless of RS are 155. ZL1 vert is 155, coupe is 184. Not sure about 1LE either, but since it's an SS, probably 155 as well.

i have a 2 LT vert, with 19 inch wheels. it is at 155 too. the RS option dont matter. i dont have RS, but 19 or biggger are 155. if 18's, then 113.

Do all SS's come with the 19 inch wheels? I know the RS package does, that's why I said RS, but that's not right, since anyone can add on the bigger wheels regardless what package they get.

But then that's a good question too - 19 inch wheels won't get the higher limit, unless they we're put on at the factory right?

Look at your tires. If OE they should say P245/45R20 front and P275/40R20 rear. All SS's come with 20" wheels and Pirelli P Zeros (except 1LE) The RS package on V6 comes with setup also, unless something has changed in the past year or so I don't know about. The Pirellis are Z rated with a load range Y suffix which makes them rated to 186 mph. I guess someone at GM threw a dart at a target on the wall and hit 155.

It's hard to find a concise explanation on the forums about this. But basically, it comes down to Z rated tires, like you're saying. Any Camaro with Z rated tires from the factory will be 155 (or in the case of the ZL1 coupe it's 184). But! Chevy ONLY puts Z rated tires on Camaros with 19 inch wheels or larger, right? Which includes: 2LT, SS, RS, 1LE, ZL1, Z28.
Out of those listed, only the 2LT has 19 inch wheels right?

how did we get to the ss vert ,mine is a ZL1,anyway doesnt the ZL1 vert and coupe have the same size rims and tires ? or have i missed something ? The coupe has done over 200mph in testing with the limiter removed I think its the 700 or 750 packages on closed tracks. so I dont think it has anything to do with tires at all would it ? since my question was about the ZL1 which the ssvert isn't in the same ball park I would think supension ,tires or any other thing. what do you guys think is it just a safety concern over the soft top ?
I would think that it should be able to perform at the same speeds. Other convertibles are able to do it,If anyone has a link to information showing what the vert is really able to do,pls pass it on thank you.

Like was mentioned in a post above, the internet rumor is that the GM engineers won't certify the top for over 155. Vert doesn't have a belly pan either. Why? Consensus is they don't do much until you approach 150. Well, consensus also is that hood and splitter doesn't do much until you approach that speed, so why does the vert have those and not the belly pan, or at least one that will fit a vert? These are questions that for some reason no one with authority will answer. It's like the runaround you get on reasoning behind break-in procedure

155 was also the limiter on my Cobalt SS/TC so Im guessing thats their company standard limiter for most performance vehicles , obviously ZL1 coupes and vettes excluded
