lolwut.

They can suck it with that. I don't text/drive much but EVERY dairy inspector is talking on their work phone while driving. It comes with the job.

No.. You just can't text while driving. You can talk on the phone whenever. And you can text as long as you're at a dead stop. And the first offense is a warning. Personally, I think it should be worse.

Here in NY it is 5 points on your license and a $150 fine, although not sure what the rules are.

Not what I have heard. It still is a fine you just need to be pulled over for something else first since it is a secondary offense. Here is a quote talking about it being a fine

Quote:
The ban covers tablet computers as well as mobile phones, but excludes using a talk-to-text feature. It also allows texting while stopped at a red light. A first violation is a $30 fine plus court costs. A second or subsequent violation within five years adds three points to the driver’s license and carries a $60 fine.

You know what I remember reading that exact article. Must've had a brain fart. You're right about the consequences. I don't know where I heard that the first was a warning.

Yea I was wrong the first time around too so no worries. I wonder if the law is limited to only messaging services Because if not I wonder how changing songs on your phone will be handled. I will admit I am guilty of hitting the next button on my phone while driving.

Well doesn't the officer have to observe a moving violation before they can ticket you for cell phone use? As long as you don't suddenly start swerving while tapping the next button I think you're good.

It's easier to spot people who are texting because they'll most likely be going way slower than traffic and swerving and stuff.

So the scroll-wheel thingy (for lack of better words) on your steering wheel doesn't advance the songs on your, I assume, bluetooth-connected phone?

You are correct they do have to have a reason to pull you over other than phone use. But with this law being accepted in over 40 states as of October 1st it wont be long until phone use in general will be prohibited unless it is hands free.

I actually don't use Bluetooth (never could figure out how to get it to work) and I don't use the USB cable since I don't like to do little charges on my phone and have always had issues with it. So i just use the Aux cable which will not let me use the scrolling thing on the wheel.

Oh, OK. I've never played music from my phone, but the bluetooth pairing between it and the car works pretty well. I have a 32Gb USB flash drive with my music on it. The only trouble I have is that occasionally the flash drive isn't recognized by the PDIM, and I have to plug/unplug it several times.

EDIT: Looking at the manual now, and the setup for bluetooth music looks a little different than the phone, so maybe you can't do both pairings with one device...
