Question about dealer fees

So, here is what I ordered: (at 1100 as of today)

2SS/RS IOM in and out, Polished 20's, Black rally stripes and automatic. Dealer is selling at "MSRP" which based on my options, should be $38,375. That is what the build sheet he gave me had and its the same i got from GMs website.

Here is the breakdown he just faxed me over:

*Vehicle price: 38,795
*appearance protection: 399
*theft protection: 249
customer rebate (USAA discount): -750
for a grand total of: 38,693

tax: 2472.08
tag/ reg fees (est): 325
tire/batt/MVWEA: 8.50
*dealer service fee: 599.95

Balance due: 42,098.53

I'll be talking to him about those "protection" fees first thing manana. IDK what they are, but I don't want them. Will inquire about the dealer service fee but I would expect to pay something around there. Am I missing anything other than the fact the vehicle price is NOT MSRP for my options?

Thanks peeps!

Theft protection? They definately need to knock off that and appearance protection. Most dealers have dealer fees it's just extra profit, some dealers are nice enough not to. Other than the dealer fee I say if I didn't ask for it I ain't paying for it.

Extra charges....Tell them Camaro Scotty said this is a 2010 Chevrolet, and it is equipped with OnStar - so you don't need any theft protection. Tell them you'll be trading it in 12 months from now, so you don't want paint protection.

If that don't work, tell them you'll just order it from a dealer in Wisconsin.

God I love this site! Thanks for the response guys. I don't know why, but i've never felt 100% comfortable with this dealership but it's the only dealership offering "MSRP" in a 150 miles. I'm sure I'll have no problem having him take the fees off.

For those of you familiar with the GM order workbench system, what does "priority" mean?

Doesn't mean a whole lot. It's just a dealer assigned number... Hopefully it says 1

There should be no "appearance protection fees" unless you added something to your car (like a clear bra or something) and the car has a GPS system built in so the police will be able to find it if it's stolen anyways. It should have anti-theft built in anyways. So there may be a 'dealer fee' but don't pay any of those other fees. my original dealer charged $400 for their dealer fee, but i found one that just charges $75, which they say is for the title.

Mine is set at 20. I asked him and he said that it was the number of Camaros they had ordered in the past with the options that I ordered. I asked him (again) if they had my allocation now and he said yes.

I'll ask him to give me a breakdown of that dealer fee when I call him today. If it's fair, it's fair.

I hate it when they do this. I would fax back with all the extra stuff crossed out with your initials beside it

Neither of the two chevrolet dealers I use have "dealer fees" and I won't pay one EVER...I've walked over their fees in the past and will continue to do so.

Had the dealer (not my normal go to people, but they had the car I wanted) agree and put an "out the door" price in writing. When I got to finance, the "gentleman" there tried to add $300 to the price. I just told him that if he wanted his $300 that it had to come out of the out the door price as his dealership had agreed that the written price was "out the door." After calling his used car manager...he decided I was right. I was standing up and half way out of his office before he got off the phone...I wasn't negotiating anything at that point.

Don't be afraid to walk on a deal. This is a car that will soon be everywhere. You might have to wait a little longer, but a dealer that does the crap that this dealer looks to be doing doesn't deserve to be in business. They are the reason car dealers have a bad name.

All those dealer add on fees ARE simply added dealer profit without stated it as "A MARKET ADJUSTMENT". If the dealer agreed to sell at MSRP NO ADDITIONAL BOGUS FEES SHOULD BE ADDED.
