More rubber is NOT better on OEM wheels. What you are doing is taking a nice snug fitment from the factory that has been tested and engineered to perform flawless with the MRC while adding unsprung weight and sloppier side walls. There is NO gain and in fact a loss in optimal wheel and tireperformance.

Wider rubber acts like a snow shoe in the snow and a surf board in the rain.

What about ice? I may be confused with snow and ice

The same but worse. Most wide tires are summer performance or all season at best. The colder it gets the less traction they have. Winter tires have specially compounded rubber that still has grip in freezing weather. Combine a summer performance tire, like the rubber on a ZL1, with freezing temps and your car will feel like it is on ice on a dry road.

On ice, the only sure traction comes with studs or chains.

Note: The ZL1 tires come with a cold weather warning from the factory and so do other ultra high performance tires.

The primary advantage of wider rims and tires is that the tires will run cooler. This allows you to use tires with softer/stickier compound.

Wider rims and tires have very little effect, if any, on contact patch size. Contact patch size depend mostly on tire pressure.

Disadvantage is unsprung rotational weight as well as aerodynamic drag.

Offsets are very important when stuffing wider tires up front, but you went with a Nitto Invo 295/35. A Michelin Super Sport 295/35 is much wider... so that's why he decided on the 285 instead. Fitting a 295/35 PSS up front requires an offset guru or some magic...lol
