Oil on dipstick..Measurement variance
The Camaro owners manual says to "...give the oil several minutes to drain back into the oil pan. If this is not done, the oil dipstick might not show the actual level...."
How much variation have you seen when taking a measurement of oil on your dipstick? For example, if you take a measurement after the car has sat "...several minutes..." may get a full reading (no oil loss) on your dipstick. However, after a bit of driving for 10 or more minutes and checking it immediately without giving "...the oil several minutes to drain back into the oil pan..." the dipstick may measure that you are half a quart down. I ask because I went into Jiffy Lube and received instant service and they noted on my receipt that there was no oil on my dipstick but I had measured a full dipstick an hour before. See this link for the full fiasco: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=319431 |

When I had my LLT, the oil was a bit lower if you did not let it settle a bit, but there was still clearly plenty of oil on the stick. I doubt it would have event amounted to 1/4qt less.

on the ss it usually takes about 30 seconds of idle time right after you change the oil . on mine its about half way on the hash marks and it take another 1/2 quart to top it off

In this poll, it is going the other way. For example, once you have the oil filled and then then go driving around for several minutes and then take another measurement as soon as you stop. You might find that it is down a certain amount (e.g. 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 of a quart) but then without adding anymore you wait several minutes and then it returns back to full. |

No matter what my vote is I always measure my oil by allowing the motor to sit for at least 30 minutes! That's why I measure first thing in the morning before turning my engine over. When you measure make sure your on level ground (resaonable).
