Yea some cops write a lot of tickets. Sometimes they are just traffic cops and they have to.

When I was younger I lived in VA and I got pulled over a lot. I've had my fair share of tickets as well. Agreed with live and learn!! I've been there!!

HOWEVER! Next time I get pulled over and the officer says are you aware 20 over (I wasn't doing 20 over) is criminal speeding. The moment you say yes or no it's evidence that he has against you. So I'm just going to say sorry officer but I wouldn't like to answer any questions without a lawyer present. Because I do have the right to remain silent all I have to do is show him my DL and insurance. I watched a good long video yesterday about a criminal defense attorney. "Don't talk to cops without a lawyer"

I wouldn't recommend that either lol I'd just say I didn't think I was speeding. Don't act like a street lawyer it's highly annoying.
I always just said I was sorry and wasn't aware of anything. I've gotten pulled over while speeding up on an on ramp to pass a tractor trailer. I told him I was sorry I wasn't paying attention to speed I was trying to be able to safely merge and I didn't mean to break any laws. He let me go.

If someone tossed that line you said I'd probably say ok and come back with a ticket with the court date that you and your lawyer could converse about the situation with me.

:/ good point.... I mean I talked because he opened up by saying. "Are you aware I could arrest you right now, do you think if I pulled another person over if I should give them a ticket or arrest them, because I could do either." Oh well enough arguing. I won't get anywhere lol.

That was kind of a dick line for him to say. You'll have that though. Honestly sounds like he was going to give you a ticket no matter what.
Just gotta watch your speed and in you see a cop just slow down and try to blend in lol

I said around here people don't get thrown in jail for smoking. Granted we've had an idiot arrest a girl for DUI for being high on weed but that's not something I would do unless she caused an accident.

Yes I'm a police officer. I RARELY write tickets that aren't fixable. I do write for driving suspended and sometimes for DUI (have to when I take overtime shifts for DUI patrol and always will if it's their 2nd DUI).
I stop cars to find worse things than simple traffic violations. I can't stand a thief and love finding stolen cars or other items.


Would I have pulled OP over? Yup! Would I have written him a ticket? As long as he was respectful nope not for speeding.
I've written 3 speeding tickets in 2 years. One I wrote as open docket so only goes against her if she gets another ticket (she was going 32 over). One told me to write her and let her go on with her business :shrugs: ok.

I've never even written anyone for having shake or a smoked blunt or anything like that.

But keep on trying to stir that pot there big boy. I do my job and haven't had a complaint yet.

Hey you sound like a great Police Officer , I can only hope I would get pulled over by you and not a girl/guy with a chip on their shoulder , This dates back to where you said Nobody gets thrown in prison for having/smoking weed unless they are a major player/dealer. That simply is not true there are many that have been thrown in jail for that , As you know weed is the same class as having Heroin or cocaine , meth etc. I think it is time for the people to quit populating our prison system with drug offenders and start getting them the help they need . I have nothing against Police officers , I think you have a very tough and dangerous job and I thank you for your service

That depends on the state. Here weed is not in the same class as heroin and cocaine. It takes a good damn amount of weed to make it a felony.

My county is horrible about actually putting those in jail who should be in jail. Two years ago our detectives worked a case where a young mother who was known to use pills and all ended up passing out on top of her child. When she was woken up she did NOT immediately go to the hospital or try to get the child help. It took hours before that happened.
She got home confinement....
Thankfully she didn't report home right away like she was ordered to... She went to a resturaunt and got drunk... Posting photos of her doing so with words about beating the cops blah blah. Soooo they went there and arrested her for probation violation THEN she went to jail.

If you have a clean record, then you might be able to plea it down to a simple "Failure to Obey a Traffic Sign", which in VA is a 2 point ticket and small fine. Once you turned down a side road, you practically admitted guilt.

On a side note: I am stunned that an LEO would admit in a public forum that he/she would not cite for DUI because they were only smoking weed. Or because it was only their first one. I had to read it twice to make sure I read it right, and still couldn't believe it.

As for speed limits and revenue generation, they are more closely related than speed limits and public safety. There are countless studies proving that the limits are lower than neccesary for "public safety", and it almost always comes back to revenue generation for the municipality. While I do not consider officers to be "revenuers", at times that is exactly what is going on.

That's not how it works. It's not a scale. A shallow groove is cut into the road surface in a square or rectangle and a sensing wire is placed in the groove and covered. I pull forward if another car pulls behind me before the cross traffic goes to yellow, though, and the arrow is tripped by that third car. There has to be a first car there or it doesn't work, though, as there's a sensor in the first car position as well.

I don't think I've been pulled over in Phoenix proper for anything since 1986. You just got a bum deal on this one, OP. I am rarely under the speed limit on any street except a residential one or a school zone.
