Not even close to being a supercar.

I have to tell you that every time I ever really tried to look up the definition of super car what I came back with was that it is simply a made up term that high end auto makers use to market their cars. There really is no definition other than if someone wants to call their car a super car.

There was a post on here somewhere I swear, maybe in off topics, that talked about what happened once a thread went to quoting wikipedia.
Wikipedia is not a very dependable source of information. Anyone can create a wikipedia page on any subject.

Lol... Yeah, I hated to do that but we always need some standard when we are trying to define a term.

I have been thinking about this a little more and I would like to throw out my own definition of the supercar.

Supercar - A limited production car of generally high cost that has its entire engineering focus on being able to attain and handle excessively high speeds generally only seen on the highest level racing cars, currently as of 2013, 200 plus mph.

I think the ZR1 qualifies but the Z06 does not and the ZL1 does not either. I don't put the Audi R8 in the category, it looks like a supercar but there is too much emphasis on creature comforts.

Just my opinion....2 cents.....

How could someone making $30k a year afford a ZL1? Do they live in it?

A single individual with no children and no real deductions. Brings home about $529 a week, you'd about have to live in the ZL1.

I meant to someone who cannot afford a ZL1 it is a very expensive car that is fast. Not that someone living at or near the poverty line could afford it. My bad.

I own a ZL1 and as much as I enjoy my car I cannot classify it as a "Supercar". I had a friend (RIP) that owned all at one time Lamborghini, Ferrari, Acura NSX (supercharged) and a Porsche 911. The ZL1 is a Camaro that has added purpose built features to separate it from the SS build. I have seen it before when the modded SS owners chime in on how their "modded car" is faster than a stock ZL1. That's cool you've got your car to that point and I'm happy for you as I would have most likely done the same route if I had not had the funds for a ZL1. To be fair, compare your SS with the same aftermarket mods added onto a ZL1 and then what happens? Just enjoy the car?

Wiki? Seriously? Using that as a reliable source is...well...we'll use the word effeminate.

Anyway, the word of the day when they made real musclecars, never even USED the term musclecar. They called them "Supercars". Just cuz it's fast and expensive doesn't mean sh*t. And then there's a zillion misinformed people calling the Camaro a musclecar. So by that standard, it HAS to be a supercar by default.

The ZL1 is the current ultimate Camaro. Just like in the musclecar/ponycar days you could walk in and order one without having to have a hookup, special friend, etc. It is NOT a supercar because it never was a musclecar. You can't have your history and then rewrite it. The Camaro is always a ponycar to me. Although one hella fat pony.

So now we have Supercar, Ponycar, Musclecar, Exotic, etc... there really is no standard definition of any of these terms so I'm going to have to agree to disagree with some of you on here about the ZL1.

I think of the Lambo's, Ferrari's, Porsche's, etc as exotics and on an entirely different level than the Camaro ZL1. Those cars can also be considered supercars as well. But for what the ZL1 costs, the HP it makes, and it's production #'s - compared with other supercars - I think it fits in that category.

No way no how. it can be modified to offer near supercar performance.

love the car but supercar it is not. ferrari 458, macleran MP4-12C stuff like that is a supercar.

ZR1 is not even a supercar it just offers supercar performance.

supercars are not built off of other platforms. they just are supercars period. the ford GT was a supercar for example IMO. the new GT500 offers supecar perfromance in some ways but is not one.

the viper and the GTR are debatable. they are one platform only, perfrom well, not many made.

people will say there is no deffintion and they are right but still if you can go buy an economy version of it not a supercar in my book.

I think it was Plymouth that started the Supercar thing.
