So far the consensus is that the ZL1 has supercar-like performance but it is not a supercar per se because real supercars are expensive, exotic, exclusive, and powerful.

I had a 2010 SS with a Maggie 2300 on it with several under the hood mods along with extensive cosmetic mods. This car use to get me lots of compliments on a daily basis. I easily had somewhere in the area of $55K invested in the car between the car itself and all the mods. But in the end of things, it was just a $55K Camaro SS.
![]() Then I traded it on my 2013 ZL1 that almost tipped the scales at $60K. What's the difference between the two? Dollar wise, not much. Retail and trade in value? A crapload difference. That and my Z has every bit of power that my SS did along with a superior suspension package that wasn't available in my SS. Oh, and let's not forget that I have 580HP with a full factory warranty. And last but not least, something that never ceases to amaze me. My ZL1 gets a lot more attention than my SS ever did which I really don't know why. I always thought my Bee was a real looker but my Z gets far more attention. So my point is this. One can argue that their SS that has 800HP can outrun a stock ZL1 all day long. But in the end, it's just an SS with tons of $$$ invested in an every day car that will never ever return the owner no where near what he or she has invested in the car. At least my ZL1 has and will hold a higher resale value for a little while mainly because it is a ZL1 which is not your every day Camaro.

I'd argue there's more to being a supercar than performance alone. I'm not even sure I'd consider a Corvette a supercar let alone a Camaro. |

Yeah for sure. I'm only about 30 minutes from you in Turlock. I wanted to make it out to the Sacramento Raceway Camaro night on the 23rd but I'll be on my way to the Texas Mile.

A supercar has always been defined as any car that is blatantly unnecessary. "Superman" is just a man with superpowers, and he's freaking cheap and works for free. Well, the ZL1 is exactly that. It doesn't have to be expensive since that's a relative term. A Prius is expensive to people in most countries, doesn't make it a supercar. 580hp, however, is some serious overkill...but a shit load of fun.
![]() As far as quoting Wikipedia, lets go make our own page for the ZL1, we'll call it an "awesomecar", and its better then "supercar", and is on the only one, and it comes with hookers and booze...and it's was the base for the mars rover...all we need to do is just click edit and make up whatever you want.

Is a Ferrari F430 a Supercar? A 360 Modena? Viper GTS? ZR1?
Well I passed all of them at the track a few weeks ago so if the ZL1 isn't...then I'm not sure these cars are either. Hahah The ZL1 isn't a $200k Ferarri, but is sure performs like one! I think its a pretty Supper Car myself. |

Btw. The F430 owner made my day. Came up to me and said, "man I don't know if you have ever heard your car, but that thing sounded bad ass when you passed me"!
Haha. We can hang in the Supercar club. |

No. That said, I think it's the first Camaro that can be considered a legitimate sports car. That's a huge leap. The Z/28 will be the same.
Supercars need to sound ridiculous, look ridiculous, and be ridiculous. The ZL1 isn't any of those to me. Thankfully. It's a barn burner of a sports car, and a hell of a good value

Damn, I'm havin' sooo much phun, who's got time to define it?
It is a super car, but not a Supercar. It's way too comfy at not nearly finicky enough to be a Supercar. |

The ZL1 was built to beat supercars not to be one. lol.
I don't think it qualifies as a supercar. Its just modern american muscle.

Biggest difference in a stock ZL1 and a Modded SS..... blow the ZL1 up at the track and it is on GM's dime (up to 5yrs or 100k miles)! This I like so if your Modded SS can whoop my ZL1, good for you.... just hope you don't blow yours up doing it and don't worry if it does, I'll stop and help you get a tow truck and give you a ride home.
