Having problems with hurst shifter

I recently purchased a hurst shifter from a member here. The installation went smoothly and so did driving it for the first 5 miles or so. After that I heard a loud rattling noise and vibration coming from the shifter. I put it back on the lift to find the rubber boot off and rubbing against the driveshaft. I put it back on and it seems to be rubbing still even when flush against the assembly. Has anyone else experienced this? Also seems to be making more than usual noise inside only while in gear. Tried doing a search and didn't find much. Any help will be appreciated being a newbie to this kind of stuff.
