I wonder if the insurance companies would break it down to models? Like do SSs or V6s get stolen the most? If so that should raise insurance only on the models that get stolen the most.

I dont worry about mine really. I can see it from my bedroom and it wakes the neighbors when i start it. So w/ the back facing my window it will surely wake me up. Then its only a foot more to reach for my gun.

If you averaged out the 1,509 for the 4 years reported (e.g. 377/year) and look at the 2012 stats for all vehicles, it puts some context into the picture.

#1: Honda Accord (58,596)
#2 Honda Civic (47,037)
#3 Ford Full-size pickup (26,770
:
#10 Nissan Maxima (6,947)
:
:
#?? Chevy Camaro (377)

Bottom Line: Chevy Camaro less that .001% of all cars stolen in 2012.

Well I hope mine doesn't raise but since there are more V6's sold than SS's it would make more sense that the more models stolen are V6's

What these "numbers" show?

The atypical ratios of sales of the Camaro, Challenger and Mustang. You sell 15 Camaros to 1 Challenger, that will be a rough ratio.

Now lets take into consideration the geographic location.

This information is hogwash. Why? It takes into account ONLY Challenger, Mustang and Camaro. Any mediocre number cruncher could conclude that with a 15-1 ratio, more Camaros would be stolen.

Is this news?

What about the Honda Accord? Jeep Grand Cherokee?

100 Camaros and 15 Challengers and 55 Mustangs...this is what this post is about.

Considering the mods have been posting daily (at first) production numbers, then monthly since April 2009, is this really unexpected? The numbers shown within these very forums explicitly confirm common sense.

The ONLY reason why Challengers are stolen at a higher ratio versus sales is that most of the Challenger thefts originate in Detroit...and you have a much higher rate of Chrysler workers within the Detroit area...

And add the fact Chrysler has a shitty anti theft system...what do you expect?
we had a jeep grand Cherokee come into the shop one time where the owner only left the key, not the fob. took one of our mechanics less than 60 seconds to shut the alarm off and drive it.

Doesn't stop it from being hauled off on a flatbed.

I can take my "Theft Deterrent disabled" PCM and put it in your Camaro and drive it away. No problems.

Proof: I bought an Ebay ECU, loaded my flash to it with Theft Deterrent disabled.. and it started right up.

It's also awesome it takes under 1 minute and 0 tools to swap ECU's!

Way to go GM!

My 2005 Dodge Ram got stolen from my driveway while locked up, no keys.. they didn't break glass, nothing was left in the driveway.

My Jeep was broken into when locked, radio stolen and had some body damage to deal with from them breaking in.

Moral of the story... dont lock your car. If they want to steal it or anything in it.. a locked door does nothing except cost you more $$.

I think obviously people that don't have garages and live in apartments or in the city, etc are going to have the most problems. Of course you lock your doors, and park in places most visible. Where you live has a big factor. Where you go has a big factor. Most average people have zero issues being stolen, but vandalism is another story. Jealous jerks, bored teens, etc., are omnipresent to cause you grief. Always a tough thing to have something nice that is not locked away in your house.

Not sure if it was because of a newer year (13 vs 10), or SS vs V6, but when I swapped my 10 SS out for my 13 v6 on my insurance, it went up $50 per year.
