Moisture from Garage Floor during Storage

Of the zillions of car storage tips, I have a question on this one...

What are some ideas to prevent moisture from corroding the underbody? Is spraying WD-40 on the underbody enough or should I get a large plastic tarp and park over it?

Thanks.

I have been storing in my garage for years with my old 1994 GMC Sierra (that I replaced with my Camaro). I never had an issue with corrosion from the concrete floor. Personally, I am not to concerned about it, but I have seen people park on sheets of plastic if you are worried.

WD-40 should be plenty to protect your ride from corrosion not even sure you need that! I use that on my 4x4 trucks before big shows and mudding makes it easier to clean up after having to much fun.

With over 40 years of experience in storing cars here's what I've done, I run a 20" high velocity floor fan just in front of the cars at medium speed 24/7.

I'm not in favor of using a plastic tarp, if moister build up on the tarp it will never dissipate. In one of pole barns ( it only has a dirt floor ) where some trailers I use some ply-wood sheets under them, 4'x8' sheets of luan underlayment wood be a good choice and it's fairly inexpensive also.

I've used a plastic sheet the last two years. When I move my car in March, the plastic is all wet under it.

I like the plywood. No plastic. I like the fan idea too.

If you are concerned about moisture lay some large sheets of heavy cardboard to park on

JWoj3540, do you plan on having a DD parked next to your Camaro doing the winter months, if you do that might call something different all together.

Good point. This winter the camaro should be all alone with no daily driver near it.

The only time moisture will be a problem is when the car is cold and you open the door to the outside and its warmer and humid outside. This will cause condensation to form on the colder surface. I have a truck I have been storing in the garage since 1987 and moisture has never been an issue. No plactic no cardboard no plywood, its the moisture in the air not from the floor.

If you have to park your DD next to the Camaro here's a couple of suggestions, http://www.carcapsule.com , http://www.carbag.com ....the Car Bag is made in Bath, Mi which is only 8 miles from me. If you'd like I can go check them out for you.
