X2, they should know even if if there is another insurance company involved. You never know what will happen, best to follow procedure. What does your policy say about getting in an accident and notifying them?

Your insurance company does not own your car, they just insure it so unless you need to get money on a claim, why do they need to know?. You would want to contact your insurance company if the opposing insurance company isn't wanting to cover it, so they can fight it out.

Call your insurance company to let them know. It's called a RPO or reporting purposes only. If down the road you end up getting screwed over, your insurance already knows about it and can act quickly. It will not affect your rates because you were not at fault.

Contact your insurance agent and ask him what you should do. That's what he gets paid for...helping you.

Please tell us which insurance company you work for, because it's very hard for most reasonable people to comprehend that State Farm or All State or USAA would have any problem whatever being notified in this situation.

There is no law that says they have to provide you insurance. But in this instance, you shouldn't have to worry about them dropping you over this. Yes! Always a good idea to keep your insurance company advised as to what is going on. Even though the claim will be handled through the other company, you pay premiums for your company to "look out for you". They will (should) go to bat for you if needed in the case the other company is slow or tries to short change you on the repair.

+1 No need to call them unless your uncle's insurance drops the ball. If your car doesn't get fixed then you can call your insurance.

your insurance has no stake or ownership in your car. they're simply there to repair it if you damage it or someone without insurance does. they have no need to know, and your under no obligation to tell them. even if you were at fault you don't have to tell them. you can always pay for the other drivers damages out of your own pocket. now if you get a ticket, or move, or have a child get his first license or permit then you have to notify them. that effects your risk to them, and will effect what you pay. |
