Carwash? I would not recommend taking a vert to a carwash. Good luck with the fix.

I take my car through a carwash once a month and never had a problem. I doubt that is the issue.

Dealer Fix

I copied/pasted description/solution directly from service work order. Essentially, what I could garner from the somewhat 'cryptic' description, is that an (not sure how many) actuator arm was not connected to a ball stud. I asked service person does that mean 'something came loose' or 'was not engaged'? .. She said 'yep, that's about it' ... So, an actuator arm had come detached or came loose, was reattached and switch was re-programmed. Here is the service order below ... what the heck is a PARMINTOR? Haven't tried it yet to see if it's really fixed ... will later this evening:

THE TOP WILL NOT GO UP OR DOWN WITH THE BUTTOM ONLY MANUALY PLEASE ADV

CHECK FOUND CODE B132/SA CHECK FOUND SLOW POSTION

REMOVED RIGHT SIDE REAR SIDE PANNEL TO ACCESS SWITCH FOUND TOP OF ACT. ARM NOT ON BALL STUD.
REINSTALLED ARM AND REPROGRAMED SWITCH. RETESTED TOP NO PROBLEMS AT THIS TIME

A couple of times when I let go of the button, the motor would continue to run, until I killed the ignition. I released the hydraulic motor and manually raised/lowered to make sure it wasn't catching on something. No problem there. I'm taking it to a nearby dealer, but wanted to see if there is something that sounds familiar to anyone .. Common or not common. I hope this isn't the start of more issues.
sambocaesar,

Sincere apologies to hear about your convertible top concerns. Any frustration this creates is certainly understandable. While you're seeking community opinions and responses, feel free to message us privately and I'd be more than willing to exhaust my options to potentially assist you, especially involving the dealer.

Sounds like someone misspelled Parameter and active/inactive...
Glad they found what it was.

Hey Kevin,

Can you give us 2011-12 owners a break? Sure there have been problems with the tops as evidenced by the forum pages here.

Those first ones that were reported here on C5 not only laid the ground work for the rest of us to get our tops serviced and make it a known issue but the frustration they went through is something I wouldn't wish on a Mustang owner. Several had to have their cars bought back, not a fun process.

After all the problems with the original 2011 tops, being rushed into production by a vendor who had troubles...........beyond that, most are still fine and going forward are getting better.

I have a 2012 mfg. 1/2012 and it is okay, but I am paranoid about anything that could go wrong about it. I am hoping the 13's and 14's are flawless, it is a nice top: quiet and keeps the contour of the hardtop.

So, just saying.

Thanks to all for replies and well wishes. Just stopped working and went to check the top retraction up and down, and everything is back to normal. I'm a happy camper. The weather in Florida is beautiful right now ... no rain and mid-80's .. close to perfect for cruising with the top down. Service folks were very nice ... new in my area. They relocated after being bought by group who owns Hyundai/Mazda dealerships ... right next door to Mazda and very close to my home. I'll remember Wm R next time I have questions, etc. I belong to a G20 forum, also. Got a lot of great help there for my 94 G20, which I drive for most of my commuting. My vert is my Friday and weekend car. Thanks again everyone.

That ball stud is on the end of the small hydraulic ram. It did not come loose. Who ever did your 5th bow did not connect it properly. nothing came loose or disengaged it was not hooked up properly. It will not come off once attached correctly. If you manually opened and closed the top you could easily see that it was not attached unless your blind.

Don't be so harsh on him, geesh if he didn't know what to look for how could he have seen it? Just because you took yours apart and knew how it works doesn't mean everyone knows.

Glad to hear you got your convertible fixed. It is kinda pathetic that they can't spell parameter, position, button, panel, active, inactive, etc. correctly in the service department for a technical job.
