Hot Wheels............how many is too many

I just realized when I had to go and buy a bigger storage container for my Hot Wheels that I now own more than my collection from 40 years ago. Of course now they remain NIB. Inspecting my old collection shows most look more like they participated in a Hot Wheels Demolition Derby.

I can't help myself. Even the grocery store sells them. Likely to appease the young children forced to shop with their parents.

Is this an addiction? An illness? I know I can't seem pass up the classics. A lot of late 60's early 70's muscle cars.

Is it just me? Am I alone? Anyone else unable to pass on them?

You're normal. I have a few myself. This is one of my favorites but I have no clue who made it.

Normal for us Camaro owners to be a little over the top.

Here are my stairs leading to my lower level.

And the wood shelf was suppose to hold my collection of Camaro's when I started out. My dad made the shelf.

The wall on the left is the first 4 gen's the other wall is all 5th gens.

There is no such thing as too many I have plenty of them, matchbox, M2, Greenlight, and erally like the looks of the new Auto World true 1./64 scale cars, though the lack of any opening parts and less detail than the other high ends kinda sucks..

I re-discovered them in the early nineties buying some for my son. Soon I was buying some for myself as well to add to my old ones. Before I knew it I'd joined the local Hot Wheels Collector Club. Then they started with those damn Treasure Hunt cars and I then joined the Hot Wheels Collector internet site when it got started. It started getting crazy and there would actually be fist fights break out in stores between scalpers and/or collectors. And once Ebay got going and the store employees found what some of them were going for it became nearly impossible to find stuff anymore. The first person to them would buy every single one and run home and put them on Ebay. From the mid nineties to early '00's I had the Hot Wheels jones BAD. Finding a new case of new stuff and Treasure Hunts was a huge adrenaline shot. I got caught in the "collector" thing, (HINT #1: if it SAYS "Collectible" on the package that is a real good indication that it ISN'T!). I have cases, and cases, and CASES of them in my basement and most all of the boxed sets as well, guestimate there are 4,000 or so. (Hint #2 In 1968/early'70s people bought Hot Wheels and gave them to their kids who destroyed them. THE VERY FEW that survived are now VERY valuable. Nowadays because of that everyone and their mother have pristine unopened Hot Wheels they think will be worth a fortune, THEY WILL NEVER BE and everybody already has them!) Most of the limited and boxed sets I bought I'd be lucky to get what I paid for them 20 some years ago.
Thankfully I'm almost completely cured. I do still look at them and every now and then will pick up a new one (and Camaros of course). Picked up a couple of COPO's, a Delorean, and Porsche 918 the other day.
