New here and seeking advice.

Hello all,

My name is Nick, from Chicago. I am new here and have always been a Chevy Fan. I am currently a year into paying for my 2013 Chevy Sonic (I know, not a dream car, but I needed a car on the spot for an internship away from home).

I will graduate college in May and am hoping to buy a Camaro. I start working in June making 75K/year, with a $400 monthly student loan payment, and I'll be looking to pay less than $800 per month for an apartment ($800 per person with roommates). I would keep my Sonic until I can buy a camaro without financing it, but my sister will need a car on campus, and I may give it to her and let her take over payments. If she does not take it, I know my parents need a new car, and they have bad credit so I may let them take over the payments.

Although I am grateful to have a car, it is a rough feeling knowing you bought something and are committed to it while there is something out there much more desirable.

I definitely want to buy a camaro, but I am unsure if it is economically smart to buy an SS over an LT, and I am afraid of regretting purchasing a V-6 later down the road. I plan on saving 5-10K for down payment, and possibly using a cosigner.

I am afraid of buying a used car because I have no idea how the previous owner had driven the car, and how much longer it would last.

Does anybody here know from first hand experience, the difference of insurance costs between the LT and SS at age 23?

Would you recommend buying a V-8 out of college, or is the V-6 better for someone my age?

Also, I will be living in Chicago, dealing with rough winters, but I've done research on how to drive in the winter, and I'll be buying winter tires and using sand bags.

If you are going to be making $75K a year straight out of college it sounds to me like you have worked extremely hard (engineering degree I assume?).

I would opt for the SS, keep the Sonic and have the Camaro as an "incidental" car on your insurance policy. You'll save on insurance through this method.

If you plan on buying the car new, have someone with a fantastic credit score co-sign for you, or expect to have a fairly high interest rate.

You should buy a used Camaro from the Classifieds on this forum lol

Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands, girlfirends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.



oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

I had a relative with good credit cosign my sonic, and I'm at a 3.79% interest rate.

When it comes to buying used, how many miles can a camaro have. I am afraid of buying a car and having to throw money away on maintenance.

I wouldn't worry too much about maintenance issues with modern cars. As long as you do your homework and find a vehicle that was regularly serviced, you shouldn't be discouraged from purchasing used.

You can save a fortune by buying a slightly used Camaro
