This is going to be one of those threads that doesn't lead to a black and white answer... go with whichever company seems to have the best presence in your area AND what your tuner/installer is comfortable with. With that being said...
Both companies use T304 Stainless Steel mandrel bent, stainless hardware, fit like a glove, 3/8" thick CNC flanges that are perfect seal and barely need gaskets... both don't have any problem with retaining heat to the front o2's (as opposed to non thick-stainless companies). If this were my car, I would install ONLY Kooks and/or American Racing Headers because they're the only two companies I trust for fitment, quality, and customer service. We've installed and sold both and they're both 5 stars across the board, and thats an honest reccommendation. Nick nor George are sending me a check to say that! :P But they are accepted! LOL We just installed a few sets of Kooks on the 2010 platform and are anxious to try out the new ARH system soon!! Chris |

I'm sorry about the file issue.
It's the only format I could upload and I suppose I have an issue with winzip that I've never had. These files were saved to mini DV and I can only process them via firewire, which I don't have access to yet. Im not too familiar with the results on 5th gens...But I do know the quality of their products. With that being said Go for which ever you can get for cheaper! On 4th gens Kooks have slightly better collectors, and ARH have slightly better Y-Pipes. The performance difference between the 2 isn't worth worring about, unless your going for insane N/A HP numbers

Those look like pretty good systems. I like the X-pipe; I like the coated mid-pipe; I like the black-painted AB; I like the sound. I don't like that it almost looks like they aren't mandrel bends, and would prefer stainless (I'm assuming they aluminized because they're coated. If I'm wrong, then I stand corrected in my observations and assumtions. We'll all know what happens when one assumes

Is everyone getting 1 7/8 Headers?
Or are some people still going with the 1 3/4? In the case of the L99, I want as much low end torque as possible. I don't mind losing a little top end HP, to get more torque down low to get off the line faster. |

I'm seeing more 1 7/8" tubes; I'm wondering about the 2", though, especially if one is planning FI...
It'd be nice to see what gains, if any, are between the three common sizes though.

I have had kooks in the past however the only thing that makes me want to go with american racing is that if I want to go with borla or corsa as my exhaust then you can only buy the headers and connection pipes from kooks then a catabck from the other two companies. Unless you planning on buying a complete exhaust down through the mufflers kooks Xpipes will not connect to a borla or corsa axle back system they only connect to there own mufflers.
so if I have to buy headers and connection tubes from kooks and a catback from borla my xpipe which is part of the borla catback of course is going to be 2.5inch pipe. I think ARH offers headers , 3inch x pipe that you can that you can attach an axle back from etiher borla or corsa. I want headers , 3 inch xpipe and borla mufflers and the only way I see that happening is if I go with ARH because kooks xpipes only connect to there mufflers. IF your car is not heavily modded then you will want 1 3/4 by using 1 7/8 you will lose quite a bit of low end torque. Last edited by Jekyll-N-Hyde; 07-29-2009 at 02:08 PM. |

Mellow to shed some light on your debate our x pipe system will hook up to our mufflers, corsa axle back, Borla axle back and magnaflows. Then we make an OEM catted and off road connection pipe to hookup the header to the already existing exhaust if you purchased an after market catback prior to doing the header install.Hope this helps in your buying decision.
