yea, but it probably wouldn't have saved him. even if they weren't using laser, being as he was by himself they probably didn't hit him till they saw him. with instant on systems a detector will only help you when they lighting up people ahead of you.

Sucks that this happened to you. I'd fight it. Don't know how it works where you are, but around here, they give you the chance to talk to the prosecutor, who will generally try and get you to plea to a lesser ticket to keep you out of the court system. Easier and cheaper for everyone.
wow! I wish it was that easy. Down here its almost impossible to get a break, but I think I'm just gonna suck it up and take it. I was wrong for doing so, so I need to pay the price.

You are exactly right! I realize that now. Im considering this a blessing in disguise.

Yes cops can be jerks. Especially the ones around here. I will admit the cop that arrested me was nice about the whole thing. Just some of the other ones were jerks.

I am waiting on my court date for doing 98 in a 55. I was cited on a major interstate outside dc at midnight and i was the only car on the road. Va is very strict on reckless driving. I've hired a lawyer and was told to expect a weekend or 2 in jail. I'm basically willing to go to jail for a few days to avoid a suspended license. I'm 30 and I haven't had a moving violation in over 11 years (11 years is how far back my driving record goes)

My only advise to you is stop seeking legal advice on the Internet, none the less a car forum!

This is how much my ticket will end up costing me
Ticket - $300
Court costs - $100
Lawyer - $2000
2 speedometer calibrations - $75 each = $150
Driving school - $65
Aggressive driving school - $70
Shop to re-calibrate speedo - $60
Pull driving record - $25
Court costs will be - $69
Expected fine on top of ticket - $250 a $2500
I don't expect my insurance to go up because this is my first ticket and the driving schools give me plus points which balance out the points I get for the ticket.

If my license is suspended or restricted factor in several hundred for taxis.

And I'm sure there will be more.

Given the above, the fact my ticket has already caused me a lot of stress I still believe 98 in my car isn't very fast. What I realized is that my opinion means nothing to the state of va, law makers, and police officers.

your joking right? depending on what you actually plea to, or get it reduced to, and which company your with, there's a 50/50 chance they drop you. they aren't going to give you a pass for going double the speed limit in a sports car because you haven't had a ticket in a while. they're going to assume you drive fast and recklessly all the time, but managed not to get caught up till now.

anyway, +1 on the VA thing. cops and laws are tough. it's not quite as bad here in the Fredericksburg area, but when I head into NOVA or south to Richmond I always watch my speed. there's so much money up in NOVA they can put a cop on every corner, and 1 every mile on the interstates.

oh, and you said multiple calibrations. why 2, and did they accomplish anything?

That's like saying they shouldn't make Jeeps or other off road vehicles because most of them are never driven off road.. Just because a car can go 150 doesn't mean you have to drive it that fast to enjoy it.
