Rear main seal weeping due to extended cold storage?
While I've already conferred with Rodgers Chevy about getting this looked into I thought I'd reach out to the C5 community since the search button turned up pretty much nothing.
Has anyone, after parking their camaro in an unheated but insulted garage for more than one week, ever run into an issue with a small dollar bill sized puddle of oil drippings forming under where I assume the bellhousing mates to the engine block? I'm talking a sit/dwell time of probably 3 weeks maximum, enough time for a flat spot to occur on a worn tire? Oh and don't hate, the pirellis are leaking, 2/32nds tread and due for a change out! Car in question is an R6P Sept '09 build 2SS/RS, couldn't find any TSBs or other incidents and neither could Rodgers. Scheduling a time when I can take it in but like I said, thought I'd hit up the denizens of C5 for some info. Thanks guys! |

A leaking rear main is a common issue, it has nothing to do with not being driven in a week.

My 2010 sits for 6 to 7 months in the winter in an unheated garage, and I don't have this problem.

My car is also "weeping" from the rear main seal. I noticed the oil the other day when I was installing my short throw. Cleaned the oil off the transmission pan and it is starting to build up some residue again. The leak isn't enough to drip, but it is enough to create a film over the tranny pan and start collecting grime.
My car only has 20,000 miles on it, so I contacted my dealership about it. Hopefully they will help me out without a problem since Chevy just replaced my front bumper due to a defect.
