That doesn't include labor tunning etc...Change the tires and your at 68K.

So please tell me where this price is bad considering everything else that your are getting.
exactly.

Someone talked about the cost of the original Z/28.............that was nearly 50 years ago and the world has changed. In 1967, we had one emission standard to meet: California. Today we have three. We had no crash standards back then - we have many today. We did not have fuel economy numbers to hit (CAFE) - we do today...and I remind everyone that by 2024, we must hit 54.6 mpg corporate average - and that includes LD Pickups and SUVs.

The reality is that in the future, you will be able to purchase blistering performance - it may not always come from a V8 engine --

That said, I don't see the V8 going away anytime soon - but I DO believe that based on the Law of Supply and Demand - coupled with CAFE - that V8 engines will continue to get more and more expensive. Don't like it? Tell your elected representative....but frankly we need to conserve our resources.

The 2014 Z/28 - for what you get and what it will do - is a bargain. So is the 1LE and so is the ZL1 -- frankly the LS Camaro at 323 hp is a bargain.......

Lastly - the new Z/28 isn't for everyone (....we 'mellowed' the Z/28 over the years - ) -- rather, it's a serious road course car -- NOT a daily driver.

Let's hope the 6th gen Z/28, if they make one, is something us regular guys can afford.

Why not a c6z, used c6 zr1, or a new z51 c7 for less? The only reason I can see buying this is being a hardcore Camaro person. There are better GM track cars for less money.

This is eerily similar to the 2000 Cobra R. Limited production (300 were made), no A/C, no stereo, etc., and an astronomical price tag that very few can fathom ($55k in 2000 was mind-boggling). Is it cool? Sure. I just don't get it from a business standpoint. I suppose it's made more for the "Wow factor", than for turning a profit. Congrats to the few tycoons that will buy one and place it a climate controlled garage never to be seen again.

The 6th gen will probably be even more. I don't think car prices ever go backwards.

I agree Completely.

There is a Camaro for every buyer, from a entry level 1LS to the Big Dog Z/28, if you can't find one that fits your needs or wants then you will never find anything that will.

So you chose a dry sump LS7 that gets worse mileage, has a gas guzzler tax, and adds $8k over a dry sump LS3 which you also already make and meets emission standards with better CAFE numbers.

Kind of a poor argument wouldn't ya say?

With the low production numbers expected, this will not affect CAFE at all.

Mine had a sticker of $47,380. I didn't pay quite that much.

I think the Z/28 underscores the word BARELY in "barely street legal" as compared to the same slogan the ZL1 uses.

at 65k - i had justified the Z/28

Anything more and yes you get a lot of competition new and used.

New C7 with mods (mind i dont care about warranty on a car i look at to be a hot rod)
Used ZR1
Used Z07 (carbon brakes and aero upgrades)
Used 997 Turbo
maybe a GT-R (although i find them to be ugly)

I may have missed it but is there a build total yet? Leno said 1500/yr and i remember there being a 2 year window.
3k cars. This might be discounted in year 2 as some Z's sit on the lots.

I know Corvettes started running into selling issues about a month after availability

(at this point i still have my 65k target - and im not sure i want the 1LE as my heart was set on the z/28)

I am thrilled GM had the courage to make this car a reality and available for purchase. It's a great value for what it offers. A turn-key, ready to track, specialist, boutique, enthusiast car for road course drivers. There is nothing else like it in the world.

As has been the case from the beginning (March), you either get it, or you don't.

I'll look forward to making new Z/28 HPDE pals at the track this year :-)

Congrats to the Z/28 team, again, for bringing such a cool car to fruition.

He stated the price is what it is because of CAFE and emissions, not me. Choices were made to limit production and keep the cost high which was my original point.
