Actually the MSRP of a Z51 1LT Stingray starts at less than $54,000 according to the Chevy web site.

No argument, here.

But we can always hope/wish/dream...

After all, who wants to "settle"?!

...but the current reality is that Z51s are NOT abundant and, because of that, dealer orders for Z51s tend to be based on 3LTs...and several more boxes ticked, as well...

As always, Mr. Lowdown you bring up many many salient points. And you make it understandable and for that I thank you!!!

Now -- to some of you:

One thing to keep in mind as we 'debate' -

For many years we 'watered down" the Z28 (not my term - the term of many Z/28 purists... While the Z28 became much more affordable, those who remember what the 1967 Z was designed for were quite upset with where we were going with their 'hallowed' nameplate -- believe me, I've been getting very 'pointed' letters and emails from the old-school Z/28 enthusiasts since about 1996..........

So.....we decided it was time to honor the original purpose........that now means that the 'mainline' Z28 enthusiast is now upset.

That's the way this thing called "Camaro Enthusiasm" works, it seems.

Those of us on the team have to make hard, fast decisions - and we know that no matter WHAT we choose or select or decide - SOMEONE will call us out - (most of the time with an un-thought-out line of reasoning....)

So be it - that's why we have broad shoulders.

(note that I went from Z/28 to Z28 and back and forth for a reason...I'll let you do a bit of research if you don't understand why....)

There's a reason we used the LS7 engine - rather than the LS3 -- and that shows in the performance numbers ....... we didn't want to cut corners.....

Yes - unfortunately some dealers will throw a premium on top of the MSRP. You have the option of saying "NO!" - and I suspect that some will sit and sit and sit - and finally be discounted..............

Make no mistake -this is a serious driving machine -

Let's celebrate that fact, shall we?
Amen.

the z28 nameplate implies regular-guy affordability. that marque has been misused. the z28 is, in my opinion, no better than a gt500. faster around a corner? yes. slower at the dragstrip? yes.

I agree sir.

Funny you mention this. There has been a rendering that came out VERY recently with the GT350.
Not to say that I do not want a Z28, I do! But,...75k?!? No thanks. I don't track my cars, but I do love having one of the baddest cars on the road.

Folks cried foul in 69 when the L88/L89 Corvettes cost more. Then came some Callaways .. Who in their right mind would pay such a premium? Then 69 ZL-1 Camaros were built in 1969. What a crock to pay such stupid money for them...and the GMMG Camaros.. who in their right mind would pay huge money for them?... Well the way I see it.. The New Z28 is such a specialty vehicle sorta like the ZR1. It is pure bred factory performance sold to folks who will appreciate such a car. Years later some of you will say... hey , I remember when those machines came out and I could have bought one. I wonder when one will come up for sale and how come when they do they want both my arms and legs for it. We are at a pivotal time in hot rods. Enjoy the moment.

Just stopped by to say hello to my friend Scott Settlemire. Hello Scott!

We've been discussing this morning's announcement on another site and wanted to share a few thoughts with you guys.

No one has been a bigger cheerleader for a REAL Z/28 than I have. When did I start bugging you Scott, 1996? Probably bugging other people before that, but that's when I started bugging you.

Ironically, at this particular moment in my life, with two kids in college and one on the way, this Z/28 - which I HONESTLY feel has been made for ME - may be slightly out of my reach at this exact moment in time. In a weird way, I almost feel as much satisfaction that GM actually made this damned car, as I would owning one. I know, weird.

Cost. To be honest, I was expecting it to be around 10K less. I guess it really doesn't matter what it MSRPs at, with it's limited volume, very few folks will be getting much change back from their $100,000 bill. And really, when you consider the level of exotic components, their cost to develop, certify and produce,*AT SUCH LOW VOLUME*, 75 big ones isn't so out of line.

Okay, not many of us will own one of these Z/28s. Maybe 1500 over two years. What about a 6th gen Z/28? Will GM make one to match this one's performance? Will it be more attainable for more of us?

Could be, for a number of reasons.

Take care.

I think they should have made some special colors available for the Z/28, like Bahama blue or Grabber orange or maybe a green.

$75k

2013 Corvette Z06 is $75,600.00 and has A/C and a radio. So technically cheaper.

So how do they justify Z28 pricing? You can't say it's the same costs to put this motor package in a corvette body (which is about 20k more then camaro body) and expect people to pay the same price? That is crazy talk.

I'd say $60-65k should have been the msrp, and that's shooting high.

You have to know your being suckered at this point.
