Color Changing Door Trim (Not ABL)

I finally received a working RGB controller and threw together a quick video of an idea I had since taking apart my door panels.

I noticed the panels that are normally covered in material are translucent white and wanted to see how they would look lighted up.

Video doesn't quite capture the effect that well even with light enhancing feature of youtube not to mention it was taking in daylight.

I also didn't do any reflective enhancing mods on the inside to better distribute the light.

I really like it but still don't think I want it for my own car.

I figured I'd share anyways and perhaps try to better it by adding reflective mods on the inside and taking a video at night.

Now that is cool, I bet a lot of people would like to have it.
Maybe post a DIY for those that do.

I think I need to improve the light distribution first, and right in the center of the mold it seems like I may need to flatten a section that is sort of like a (0) marking casting a shadow. If anything perhaps this will help those with cloth covered trim sell their panels. (I may be one of those)

I think I may work on this just for the fun as I want colored panels to match my exterior with mine . What you see now was all half-assed as the panel is just laying on top of led strips.

Thanks for your input.

I have the cloth panels too, I wish the others were not so expensive.

Maybe introducing a matt finish in the back by a light sanding will let the light reflect better within the panel?

Thanks I thought so too myself, it's too bad the dash trim doesn't come the same way but it would be hard to get it to light up without showing the LEDS individually.

Well as it is a lot of light was escaping as I just had it raised on the floor slightly above my led strip. I think to do this properly I'd have to add a back panel and have it have a reflective but dark surface and then have the lights form a box around that trim introducing the light to the translucent panels without actually being behind the panels. If the lights are directly behind the panels you will see each led individually yet distorted.

I know what you mean. I was taking from the signs that are etched on clear plexiglass ... like exit signs that are rim lit but only diffuse the light in the etched areas
