Some good info for XM Satellite users

I had called XM a month ago regarding getting a 3 year contract for just the music channels. There was one problem with my intentions. The Camaro will be getting shelved Nov 1 to April 1 for winter and wanted to see if XM would allow me to spread a 3 year to a 6 year only using it when I was driving. The man I spoke with, although informative and helpful, said no.

Like a child who couldn't get what he wanted, I bitched and moaned to anyone who would listen about paying $349 for 3 years for music on demand and commercial free at that and wasting 6 months when wasn't using car. I will be honest, first car with satellite radio. Have been on long trips in others cars with it and frankly, Sirius was awesome. SO ANYHOW...THE STORY GOES ON

Forward to today. Get my mail..another XM renewal. Make another call and got the sweetest sounding southern girl who actually made an effort to ask a few people. I was informed that when the car goes up, I can call and cancel and I can use the 36 months whenever I want, regardless of when I garage her.

Just an FYI to anyone considering keeping XM on an extended plan and worrying about losing money in winter when up for winter.

Wonder, if you got an XM capable system in your winter car, if you'd be able to transfer your subscription to that during the winter?

The answer to that was yes (I asked that today)...if the car is in the same owners name and address.

If I couldn't spread contract out, my alternative was to buy one for the Blazer for $90.

Yes...but if the reciever pukes, you are screwed. Can't transfer to another radio.

I heard of that...friend did it. Not even sure how much it costs or what you get. Is it XM, XM and Sirius?

I've been dealing with XM for 4 years now... It takes me a least 3 phone calls to get any thing resolved... their customer service is really hit or miss... mostly miss... that being said I keep renewing! LOL!

Get an ipod! I've noticed that FM sounds better then XM.Xm sounds like an AM radio, also sounds like that in my Corvette. Their subscription rates are rediculous since they were bought out by Sirius. They went from $13.00 to $15.69 a month. Even with a yearly subscription,it's a rip-off! Bottom line, ipod wins hands down.

kinda on topic, if you listen to xm online...google pandora radio....awsome....best radio ever. unfortunately, only online. if they could do it for the car, i'd pay 500-600 bucks a year for pandora. oh, it's free online btw.

You can have pandora radio in your car if your cell phone is capable of receiving it, as for XM I have nothing to say about it but Sirius on the other hand I love it, there lifetime membership is transferable (or at least it was about 4 months ago) I have one in every car I own (3 of them)

I bought a lifetime subscription for my Sirius Starmate 4 for $399.99 back in January 2008 with the ability to change radios for a $75 transfer fee up to two times. Considering the Starmate is in the console (connected via Aux In and Power Outlet, with Antenna strung to the back deck inside the window which gets great reception) I don't need to see the screen so a new radio isn't a consdieration unless Sirius/XM comes out with a better mobile option.

I do like that XM on the headunit song info is displayed on the headunit but as I listen to the NASCAR channel and CNBC the need to see the display just isn't there. I'd like to have the headunit not display the Aux Input when using the Starmate but haven't seen a way to change the screen yet.

Great idea to suspend the XM subscription over the winter...

399.00 for as long as I own the car. If the radio brakes the transfer it to the new radio, if vehicle is stolen or a lemon the transfer it to the new car as long as it is the same make.
