Can these V6s get as fast as an 02 Trans Am?
I drove an 02 trans am a couple years ago and remember how fast it felt. I think they were under rated in hp and pushed out about 350. Can us V6 guys get there? I know it would be tough to hit the torque numbers but just wondering what it would take...

Full bolt ons, lighter wheels/tires and tune you will be getting close to a stock one. With a 100 shot of nitrous or FI you should have no problem with a stock one.

Yea I guess my question was more for bolt-ons... not really sure if Ill ever have the money for FI. I still own my first car from when I was 16 (26 now) a 95 firebird and I may just put an 02 engine in if it fits bc my father and I are restoring it. But would like to see this Camaro with a little more pep. I bought the v6 for a reason, money and gas but eventually I would like to have all the bolt on and a tune after the warranty goes.

Not with bolt-on mods alone. The 4th Gen LS1 cars were way underrated. One the dyno the stock cars were putting down rear wheel numbers at what the factory claimed at the flywheel.

With full bolt ons and a tune you can get these V6s in the 340ish to maybe 360 HP at the crank (which would be around 275 - 290ish rwhp depending on transmission used) and that is pretty awesome in my opinion.
But getting them to be just as quick as the 4th gen LS1 cars isn't going to happen. Several reasons for that. Even if we can match the HP of a completely stock LS1 car, we are still down considerably in TQ. Also, those cars are much lighter than our V6s are, and last but not least is that some of those cars had lower gear ratios as well. So all of that makes for a big advantage for the LS1. Only advantage a 5th gen auto V6 might have over a 4th gen auto is the 6 speed transmission. So the best race would probably be a full bolt on V6 auto versus a stock LS1 auto from a roll (not a dig). One other thing I'd like to point out, is that many many people like to say how their old 4th gens may have "felt" faster, or just as fast, but when they take their 5th gen to the track it ends up being slightly quicker. Thats b/c the 5th gen is a much bigger, better riding, more solid, and harder to see out of car and really can make the car seem slower than it is when your used to riding in a 4th gen which is a bit more raw.

Definitely a lot faster than a 02 V6 Trans Am, unless you do some massive weight reduction with full bolts on.

Thanks guys! I plan on doing the bolt ons just to add a few hp but I think my firebird build will be the big boy in the garage eventually. Thanks for the input!

At a local dyno day a stock 02 z28 dyno'd just shy of 300 HP, pretty underated HP claims from the factory lol. But I think a full bolt on v6 with good rubber and little weight loss should give one a run for its money, but still give the win to the LS1 but shouldn't be buss lengths lol but a modded one would give a LS3 a good run lol
