Anyhow, will dig some more and if can't find some defo answers will scratch it off the list. That would be too bad as the car seems very capable and appears good deals can be found in off season. I know NA motors are the best, but they don't come with rear seat. Pros/cons like with anything in life I suppose.
The link he provided was the entire ZL1 section, not a single thread. Search that section for heat soak or something of the sort and participate there. If you don't find what you're looking for start a new thread in the ZL1 section.

Thanks for keeping this thread on topic.

A 45 min session seems a little long for any Chevy v8 without a dry sump. My C5 z06 would fill the catch can off the valve cover before 45 minutes. I would not expect the ZL1 to do better.

Yes I couldn't find any individual threads dealing with road courses. Anyhow, will post a new thread and see what comes up. Thanks!

I've been doing up to 45min stints in my C5Z for a few yrs now. Apart from one dropped valve (during regular "lapping" - got lucky tho motor was fine), the engine is superb and oiling not an issue to require a dry sump (but overfilled per instructions). My mechanic used to race various GM products in Grand Am. Still holds a record for wins. Knows a thing or two
Some guys do go with accusumps, tho. My question relates specifically to cooling in a FI ZL1 motor, since a couple of members here hinted at heat soak issues. Thanks!

Hey how much are you supposed to "overfill" for road coursing? Is it even necessary with the LS3 and its 8 qt capacity?

Dont know much about the LS3 in a Camaro. I know the C6 Vette guys upgrade the oil pan to a "bat wing" design a la C5Z and this can be had from GM Racing.
I overfill by 1 quart. I believe the C6 Vette guys do the same but am not positive. The overfill should be mentioned right in the owners manual BTW.
Edit: as with any oiling the issue is with pick up (vs capacity per se) during long fast sweepers. As I understand it, the C6 OEM pan is flat and if the turn is long and fast enough it can lead to starvation. Unsure of the Camaro pan design in this case.

I remember the "Batwing Pan" those were the deal back in the day. Now that you mention it I remember reading something in the owners manual. I need to recheck it. It's funny all the good info in those things... lol

Not related to any one specific post, but I do recall reading some folks mentioning, that Ford doesn't go to Nurburgring. Well, they do, but not for the purpose of releasing any lap info (at least yet). Apparently Ford sent a video of a GT500 doing a full lap there, amongst other track vids to somebody that asked for some track coverage. Unsure if it was on purpose or somebody blundered by not checking the contents first. So here it is on YouTube now (not exactly new news, but I just stumbled upon it yesterday so thought I'd share).

Jalopnik also released this entertaining commentary:
"The Mustang GT500 is 660 horsepower of craziness. It's hilarious fun in a straight line but is more than a wee bit terrifying around corners. Yet all that scariness gets around the 'Ring in 7:39. That's Z/28 territory...
The GT500's run around the 'Ring is really fast, but it is not close to composed. Just look at it on corner entry, that thing is more nervous than me asking a girl on a date. Even mid-corner it's a fight to keep it on the straight and narrow and not in the dirt.
Looks like an ass clenching lap, and it also looks like an insane amount of adrenaline pumping fun."

Obviously the mention of the z28 is misleading, given the latter ran in inclement weather. Regardless, the GT500 seems to get almost identical time to ZL1 presumably on the same street tires and I believe the vid comparison gives it about 1:40-1:41 or so. How identical nobody knows (?), as the timer isn't shown. But, I found it fun to watch and fun to see how both cars respond differently in corners, etc. A supreme battle of 2 spectacular muscle cars at the Ring (if you watch the split screen version). Very entertaining!

First, this is off topic (again). Second, it's old news here. Third, it was not a formal lap hence "nothing" about it (other than it's scarey just watching it) can be verified.

Now back to your local Z/28 program.
