Atlanta folks....I might be moving...if

I can find a place that doesn't require a long commute to work. I would be working near the cobb galleria centre in Atlanta.

I like suburbs...like Lawrenceville, however that commute would have me hanging myself.

I also like Alpharetta, but the more bang per buck would be something like Lawrenceville. I checked online for areas like Marietta, but it seems to have mostly old homes. I would like to first rent then buy - and rent and buy a home 2000 or newer.

Can anyone recommend some areas west of Cobb Galleria that would mirror Lawrenceville?

Smyrna and Marietta are both nice places. Roswell has a nice downtown area and you can probably take the back way to the Galleria. Have you done a search on Zillow?

I will double check on Marietta and Roswell, but it seems most of what I found are very old homes. I used realtor.com but I will search on zillow and trulia as well.

Someone I know who used to frequent GA said Douglasville. Any thoughts? Going to spend the next 30 searching.

Thanks

If you are working normal hours, you don't want to commute from Douglasville.

From my experience with Marietta and Roswell, is that they are both older, developed areas. I don't know the whole spread, but I sure can't think of where there would be any newer developments. And, the top end of 285 is bad with commuter traffic. How 'bout Vinings? I think you'll find some newer stuff there, and it's close to where you'll work. Vinings is a nice area. I can't think of the names of all the towns, but I have friends that had a home built a few years ago close to Vinings. I think it's South maybe Southeast of Vinings. Sorry, that doesn't help much...

Yes, Vinings is nice. Might want to look at townhomes, if you like that kind of thing. Douglasville is a LLLLONNNNGGG way, in traffic, and you would always be driving into the sun, going east in the AM and west in the PM

Check Kennesaw, Acworth, powder springs. Also, galleria area is about to be a nightmare as that is where the new braves stadium/ampitheatre/party district is going.
Also, my sis-in-law is a real estate broker. PM me if you want her info, she can locate some places for you to check out.

Power Springs and Acworth had some decent homes. I got used to Alpharetta and Lawrenceville near the mall of georgia area and lawrenceville near The shoppes at webb gin.

I'm gonna have to go up solo for a couple months and rent a room before the rest of the fam comes up. During that time I can really look around the areas because home is one thing and the immediate surrounding areas along with school is just as important.

I spent 2011-2012 in Alpharetta driving 400 into the Buckhead area and it wasn't too bad if you left early. You might want to consider a couple exits north of Alpharetta towards Cumming where housing is less expensive. It's worth the extra couple minutes north. The thing is the closer you get towards Atlanta the longer wait you have on the on ramps trying to merge onto 400. Even at Roswell you'll be sitting on the on ramps. At Alpharetta north there's no wait and you'll actually get into the city faster.

Cummings would have been an option if the job was on the NE side of Atlanta. I'd would go if I had to sit in an hour traffic each way.

Focusing on Power Springs right now to see what I can learn about it before making a trip.

Alpharetta, Kennesaw, Cumming and Woodstock seem to be the 4 areas I will personally start visiting over the next few weeks.
