Any problems with side to side Pirelli rotation?
I have 25,000 miles on my Pirelli tires, and the right rear is wearing more than the left. Should I go ahead and rotate them side to side? The tires are not directional, are they? Will rolling the opposite way cause any tire problems down the road, so to speak?
And if I do, how big of a pain is it to have the TPMS relearn the positions? I have read the manual, but that doesn't tell me if it always works the first time, or how big of a pain it is to relearn. I am a little befuddled as to how the right rear is wearing quicker. My car has the limited slip. I have lit the tires up only a couple of times, and both rear tires were spinning. I wouldn't have thought there would be much of a difference in rear tire wear. Maybe I should have rotated them earlier. I have the RS Package, so side to side is my only option. Lee |

The tires aren't directional, so you can swap them from side to side. Pay attention to the tires when swapping as one side says inside and the other says outside. If your tires are wearing out of proportion then I would get your alignment checked. Usually swapping tires side to side wouldn't make any difference in wear unless your alignment is off.
To make the TPMS relearn is pretty simple. Just hit the menu button and go to where it shows your tire pressure and reset. |

The P-Zeros are NOT directional tires. If they were there would be an arrow on the sidewall indicating the direction of forward rotation required. The P-Zeros only have "Outside" on the sidewalls, meaning they can be rotated side to side (but NOT front to back since the fronts and rears are different sizes).
The manual (for my 2013 anyway) recommends rotating every 8K miles, so you should be on your 4th rotation about now. I would be concerned about the uneven wear and doubt you can do anything now to rectify that by simply rotating - you may have some sort of problem that a good tire shop should look at. Not sure about your car, but my TPMS requires a "relearn tool". Being the thrifty person that I am, I just left them alone. They work fine - I just have to remember when a left side tire reads low, it's really the right side tire that needs air. No problems so far. I rotate my tires when I change the oil/filter... every 5K miles.

OK, and Palmer,
Thanks for the replies. I am looking for real world answers, so I appreciate it. I know I SHOULD have rotated the tires earlier, but up until lately, the tires all seemed to be wearing about the same, so I didn't see how a rotation could have been much help. I am going to get a four wheel alignment soon, so that may tell me if there is a problem or not for that right rear. Lee |

From what I understand, the relearn tool makes it quick and easy, but any of our fifth gens can also relearn the TPMS manually (though a relearn sequence on the DIC, and a few minutes worth of air out/ air in procedures). If anybody knows otherwise, don't hesitate to holler, but I'm pretty sure it can be done without the tool on all of 'em.

Why wouldn't one rear tire wear more than the other? Your limited slip isn't engaged all the time and your not spooled. So that would mean one tire is putting the power down until it slips. Then the limited slip engages and both tires put the power to the pavement. Unless a tire is wearing unevenly across the tread of one tire, no need for an alignment, imo.

If had to do the relearn a few times, not too complicated.
1.) press reset 2.) start with the specified tire and let out a little air (look in manual) 3.) horn honks meaning to move to the next tire 4.) repeat for all 4 tires < 30 mins Quote:
