Are there any real gains or pros in replacing L99 resonator/H pipe?
Hi guys
I'm looking to replace the stock L99 resonator/H-Pipe with a Summit Racing X-Pipe. Are there any real gains or advantages in doing so? How bad will the drone be when the AFM system kicks in? Thanks. |

You will gain more sound when getting rid of the stock resonator, HP gains are really subjective, if any. The amount of drone will depend on the type of mufflers that you get. I run tri Y headers, no cats, true duals " no resonator OR H/X pipe" and have flowmaster super 10 mufflers, but the drone really isnt that bad, but I actually love listening to my exhaust while im driving so a little drone doesnt bother me at all. AFM is always a factor, and its annoying as hell all the time. The range device or a tune is the only way to deactivate AFM.

The only performance advantage is weight savings. I'm thinking it weighs around 15lbs. Drone isn't taken care of in the resonator, that's a function of the factory J pipes. If you're still running the OEM suitcases, you shouldn't have a problem. AFM will be a tad louder since the resonator does tone down the exhaust note a tad. You can buy a magnaflow resonated X pipe that will weigh less than the OEM unit, yet still tone the exhaust note down.

I currently have a Borla Atak axle back with Solo Performance hi-flow cats...eith this set up how much louder will it be with the resonator/H pipe delete and adding a X pipe? I wonder how loud the AFM would be....seriously thinking of buying the range device...

Sound and weight reduction will be the only benefits. You will not gain any significant amount of power. Drone and what sounds good are both very subjective things. My advice would be to also pick up a Range AFM Delete Module and forget about AFM.

I have the Jegs x pipe here, basically the same thing ready to go. Plan to install it next week. I currently have headers, cats, stock resonator and Moroso spiral flow mufflers, here is a sound clip:
I'm hoping to weigh both parts. I'm doing this for weight reduction I expect some, and I think it will help with power.
