For those that are attending your first Camaro Fest, let me say this.... Drive your car on the dragstrip and autocross!!! Don't be shy, don't be scared, as this is an opportunity for you to learn how to have some fun with what this car was made to do (other than look cool). If it is stock or just have a couple bolt-on items, your car will be just fine, it won't break. We all want everyone to have a great time and learn how to become better drivers. There have been classes and 'first-timers' at ever fest. Just don't bring that "maybe next time" attitude, bring the "I'm going to do it" attitude!

I made this mistake at the very first fest I went to, kicked myself for it for a whole year.

Bring your car, have some fun, meet all us other crazies that enjoy the same excitement.

^^^^ This is so true. If there is one time you don't need to be intimidated by a race track it's at C5 Fest. There will be lots of newbies and plenty of instruction. You can drive as slow as you want and build up as you feel comfortable.

was this directed at me?.... I was thinking I wanted to try the strip but never having a chance to be on a strip I kept hearing Adam Sandler "NOOOO they're all gonna laugh at you"

No one will laugh at you because we all had to start somewhere. Ask lots of questions and the people will be more than happy to help you figure it all out

As far as drag racing, that's not new to me. I was born into it. The drag strip is my second home. But as far as auto cross... never done it

...and since you are local we can give you lessons before hand. The Houston Camaro Club is doing AutoX at Royal Purple in March. This will be a trial for the Camaro 5 fest course. PM me for details.

I believe the newbies at autocross get a passenger instructor the first few laps

It was directed at all the people that "want" to have fun with their car, but are very nervous, or feel intimidated, or just scared to just try it. Like mlee stated, you go as fast OR slow as you want to go. There have been so many "newbies" at all these events, you or anyone else will NOT be the ONLY one. This is for FUN, this is for US, and this is for us to have an opportunity to learn so much. Don't sit on the sideline, get involved and see how much fun you will truly have!

I have unfortunately turned my wife into a speed demon. She had been "wanting" to go down the strip for a long time, but just to nervous, scared, intimidated by all the fast cars. Finally, one night, the last night the track was open, she finally got the nerver to go down the track. 2 hours later and several other passes down the track, I had to PRY Her a$$ out of the seat. She refused to get out and kept on getting in line. All winter long, I keep on hearing "when will the track be open again" and "I want to go faster". I have never seen her have so much fun in her life, and I really want others to share in that feeling of excitement and rush of adrenaline.

I am glad to hear because I want to become better at drag racing, and learn the proper things to do and how to when running the Camaro at stock. I have so many questions that I dont want to ask when I am at the local strip.

Never tried mine stock it was after some mods. If I have my rear end finished I will get back on the strip but I just like autocross better lot of my club members are drag racers and they would give better advice. I just say floor it and hang on
