Remote start, Onstar phone app
I am new, if this is the wrong place to post, mod feel free to move it.
I have a question regarding the Onstar app for starting a car. My gf has a 2011 Camaro I believe its the 1LT package. I wanted to get her a remote start kit for Christmas after a little research I found that her car is pre-wired for a remote start kit which I could get at the dealer and add on. I visited Bill Fox Chevrolet in Rochester Hills Mi, (awesome dealer, great guys) they were able to track down a kit for me. Upon opening the box I see its not much more then a wire, a few zip ties, key, and a GM activation/flash code. The tech tells me that since the start module is basically in the dash all they do is extend it up the A piller across headliner, and put a small box near the mirror. Once its installed they call GM tech support and activate it. He said it will work just like a factory installed kit. The key fobs work excellent, and I like being able to warm up the car in the morning etc. I also downloaded the Onstar app for my phone, I am a paying subscriber so I get to use the features. Oil life, fuel, tire pressure, lock/unlock features. However I want to be able to start my vehicle from the app and get a confirmation. The start / and cancel start button are not showing up on the app. I call the dealers, they say it will work just like a factory kit, and since the computer is flashed Onstar will pick up the remote start is installed. I call Onstar and they say that the car doesn't have a start kit on it and they are not able to start the car. Any ideas? Sorry for the novel, just trying to figure things out. Cliff notes: Added factory remote start to 2011 Camaro, which was prewired. Dealer said Onstar will be able to start my car, Onstar says they cannot because its not factory installed/programmed. Need help |

Sorry I did not search as well as I should have, apparently I need AP8? on my build sheet to have it work? How can I get a factory build sheet for my car? Is there another way I could start the vehicle from my phone?

The build codes are on a sticker on the trunk floor on the left side under the carpet.

If it doesn't work, I know that viper (directed) has alarms with "smart start" which allows you to start it with your phone. Requires an annual fee, not sure how much tho

Unless it was BUILT with it from the factory the on star database will never reflect it has it.

OnStar Remote Link Feature
Jeepjake,
Sorry I don't have better news to share, but unfortunately the remote start feature on the Remote Link application does not sync with aftermarket devices. Remote start must come factory installed in the vehicle in order to use that feature. Hope you are liking the other features of the app! If you have any additional questions, please let me know. -Johnua, OnStar Advisor Social Media Team |
