Best route SD-Norcal, avoiding LA?
Can somone please give me some ideas for the best route from San Diego to NorCal, avoiding LA on a Monday morning? I'm traveling this weekend.
Any comments for I-15 to 91 to 71 to 57 to 210 to 5? Thanks.

15N to the 210W to the 5???? Takes you pretty far out of the way. You could also use the 215...... Thats just going off the map. It might actually be better to just adjust your time to aviod the traffic rather then driving around it.
Or 15/215/15 to barstow, 58 Through Bakersfield to the 5......... Again, You'll probably be adding as much time as sitting in the traffic and adding a lot of mileage to the trip.

ChevyG1rl, I use the route you called out. but there's no avoiding traffic if that's what you're trying to do.

Avoid 215. It narrows to 2 lanes often and bottlenecks down to just 1 at one point. I usually try to time it to avoid the morning rush and just stay on I-5. You aren't going to avoid traffic, no matter what the route.

Where in NorCal are you headed? Take 395...it's a gorgeous route and not a lot of traffic.

15N to 58 to Bakersfield to 99 is another option, not as far out of the way as 395, but not exactly a straight shot. It's easiest (and probably fastest) to take 215 to the 210 to the 5.

From memory (so If mess up a number ...)
5 - 73 - 55 - 91 - 57 (watch 60 merge - tricky) - 210 - 5 (use truck ramp). This looks way out of the way on a map, but LA is so crowded now (hey I'm from there), it's much faster than 5 or 405. As I recall that 15 route you mention is travelled heavily by gravel trucks. No good for our paint.

Head south to the tip of South America, go across Antarctica, back north through the Eastern Hemisphere, then back south from the North Pole....Beautiful scenery, and no LA traffic....

You could take the 5, leave around 9:30 or so. You should miss most of it...

Yes, beautiful scenery, I'm sure!! I'm aiming to leave at 6 AM, figure we'll hit LA around 7:30-8:00, right? The route I found is only 10 mins additional time according to Google maps so I'm assuming this is bs. :/ Thanks for the tips/suggestions. I'll take another look.

I travel a lot from Sacramento to poway and found that 15n 210 west then 5n was the best route. Least amount of traffic
