I don't think I can put it back together with forged internals, new cam and valvetrain components and have my block cleaned and honed for under 4 or 5k. Unless I"m missing something. I've priced the parts and work.

I guesstimated having my block readied, buying forged pistons and rods and new bearings and having the crank turned plus the new cam and valvetrain components with the heads reworked to be around 6k anyway.
You think it can be done cheaper? I honestly don't know, if so then great but I had done the research a while back. |

I think that it's doable but if you've done the leg work then who am I to argue. I'm going to pm you something. You might find it interesting. |

Ya, now the valvetrain and head work can be reused later but the money I'd spend on the block work is between 3 and 4k. It all needs to be redone anyway so I figured why not do it now. I was thinking the Livernoise set up would be worth the extra 3 to 4k to have it all done at once but that's just out of my price range right now. After injectors, fuel pump and tune I'd be over 11k. I'd just as soon do it now for 8k if I can. If these crate engines are not a good idea then maybe I shouldn't do it. Which is why I post it to ask.

As far as compression goes my 417 is 9.5:1 and have good results with it. I run nothing but 93 pump gas and no meth so it's more of a safety factor for me being mainly a street car. I know a lot of people like more compression but ADM told me 9.5:1 so I said ok, no problems here.

Posted that in COTW....just found this thread again I'm thinking you might be disappointed with the cam and not have quite the power you did have. Thats fine and dandy as long as you know up front

Plus that extra .5.1 squeeze is going to help you too. Of course if you can do that with a 417 then the less volume of a 376 would make up for much of that on mine. Quote:
You are right though. Not knowing what cam it has kind of puts a damper on it. It would be easy enough to do a cam swap as it sits on my engine stand. But that would defeat two of the purposes of the crate motor. 1, plug and play and 2, saving money. |
