How to best protect my camaro?
So in a few days I will be traveling for work. I am going to be staying in a hotel for a few weeks. I am kind of paranoid about leaving my car parked where I cant keep an eye on it at night. I don't have any sort of aftermarket security system on my camaro. Is their anything I can do to best protect my car from thieves trying to steal it? Or is their any way I can disable the car at night so it cannot be stolen. I am probably just being paranoid but still am wondering.

If a good thief wants it, they will get it no matter what measures you take.
The factory theft deterrent system will stop most thefts, but won't keep someone from actually breaking into the car. Best practice, is to park in well lit area close to front door or high traffic areas. Don't keep any valuables inside the car. Keep your insurance policy up to date.

OP, someone's got to say it, you're just paranoid. Follow what's been said above, park in highly lit areas near heavy traffic. Don't park behind hotel in dark to avoid door dings, prime area for a thief.

I don't think you are paranoid, just being realistic and careful. The suggestions of where to park are good ones. Out front, well, lit, etc. I had an experience where I did just that and about midnight, about 3 hours after checking in, I heard a familiar alarm going off. It was my Miata and somebody had got into it, apparently by picking the door lock. However, even if the alarm had not gone off I am not sure they could have started it without the coded key, but as somebody else said a good thief will get it if they really want it. If that alarm had gone off behind the motel I am not sure that anybody would have been able to get to it quick enough to stop it. I watched from my window until I was sure that no one was still around, stopped the alarm and re-locked it. The next morning at daybreak I went out to check for damage and there was none. Of course, I had nothing of value visible in the car for them to steal, which was a good suggestion given earlier.
Good luck. |

Yea I do not keep things of value in my car. Being a little paranoid in my line of work is a good thing haha. The fact is as stated already that if some on want to take the car they will. But I would feel better if I was making that process harder. Most thieves will move on if they cannot get the car moved quickly.

You could always rent a storage locker/garage for the weekend and hail a cab to and from.

Just park it like a normal person and don't draw attention to it. Most people aren't like "Oo a camaro I want it." You'd be surprised how many people don't even acknowledge vehicles and what people drive because they are so unobservant. I was the same way the first couple of weeks I drove mine to school. Now I just trust it'll be alright!

I feel you...just relax (you are stressing too much and not enjoying the car) and if you want to be sure you can pull the fuel pump fuse. Of cours park in well lit area close to the road or where it can be seen by others etc.

The best way to protect it is to make sure you paid your insurance for the month.

Cut your wheels toward a curb or other cars when you park - cars get stolen on rollbacks.

Use good judgment in parking your car, and choose well lit areas. Try not to be too conspicuous (like blasting your stereo wehn coming in, or reving the car, etc.) and do not seem overly protective in parking the car, and you'll do fine.
