See ya? You do realize he ran a better Et and mph than you right...on street tires. You beat a driver sleeping at the light not the car.

Great run! Was he sitting at the light all day when he was running with other people? I know if I was in a $250k car on the drag strip, I might be untrusting of someone coming across the line and hitting me. I know a 2014 Viper hit the wall up here about a month ago at the Atlanta Dragway and pretty much totaled the car. I wouldn't want to pickup the tab for a wrecked McLaren lol

McLaren P1 tests in Arctic, MP4 at drag strip

By: Jake Lingeman on 4/30/2013

McLaren has produced less than a handful of road cars in its 50-year existence, and they’ve all been hits. The company currently sells two cars for the street: the P1 and the MP-12C, and they both require the “super” moniker.

The McLaren P1 made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in September, and has been the subject of many analyses ever since. The successor to the F1 works with a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 with the addition of a Formula One-style kinetic energy recovery system or KERS. Total system output is a whopping 903 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. All this comes at a cost of $1.15 million.

The P1 was recently cold-weather testing in the Arctic Circle. The company saw fit to produce a short video of the test, perhaps as a treat to the 375 owners who will be taking delivery of their cars in a few months.

Slotted below the P1 is the McLaren MP4-12C. It was launched in 2011 and was the first application of the company’s 3.8-liter V8. The twin-turbocharged mill in the current MP4 makes 616 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. It costs about $230,000.

Dragtimes.com caught the all-wheel drive supercar at the track taking down some strong competition. Granted, most of them are propelled by two wheels, giving the Ferrari 458 and Corvette ZR1 slight disadvantages. Regardless, it’s fun to watch.

Hi All,

I am the owner of the Mclaren MP4-12c that this gentlemen is boasting about racing. Let me state a few facts....

1. I also own a ZL-1 Camaro (2013)

2. My brother owns a ZL-1 Camaro (2012) and was there also yesterday

3. The run against this camaro was NOT touted as a grudge match and actually was our SLOWEST run of the day as my 75 year old dad was itching to make a pass...he hasn't been down the 1/4 mile in decades.....so while he didn't cut a great light...he outran and out MPH'd your camaro, sir! AT 75 YEARS OLD.....Let us all know where you are at 75 please.

4. Earlier in the day my 12C Mclaren ran 10.19 @ 137 mph.

My Mclaren is stock with only a ECU tune, running 93 octane gas and regular tires. The MP4-12c is REAR WHEEL DRIVE! By comparison this camaro had slicks and skinnies, parked under a tent with a NFL style cold air fan blowing on the engine for hours between runs, and who knows what other gadgets and massaging between runs....looked like a top fuel team over there at his tent.

Speaking of bolt ons, your throttle body could not be simply bolted on without some type of porting....hence NOT BOLT ON. We can all claim bolt ons only....but you have to sleep at night knowing the real deal.

One thing is for sure, your camaro will never perform as good as a Mclaren....EVER. I say that knowing the truth because I own both! The ZL-1 is a fabulous car, as a 4 seater it is comfortable, modern, great looking with an awesome sound and performance, but don't try and compare it to a 12C. You'd have more $$$ in your camaro then I have in my 12c if you want to equal me in performance on and off track. Those are facts.

But then again, there was the old BMW 4 door running mid 9's yesterday....why didn't you line up along side of him? Surely he has alot less invested in his car then you have in yours.....and could you imagine his post in the Bimmer forums about how he spanked the highly modded ZL-1?? You get where I'm going with this right?

Go ahead now and continue with the banter...I just wanted to make sure everyone knew the facts. I'm so proud of my dad for taking down such a wildly modded Camaro at 75 years old driving an unfamiliar car for the first time! Thanks again for being a good victim!

So what did I say that was incorrect again?

Street tires.....check
Better et.....check
More mph.....check

Heads up racing? Not sure if this was a test n tune night or it was a bracket class but the only time I ever gave a shit about my reaction time was when I bracket raced my car. And judging by the nearly 1 second reaction time....that guy truly did not give a shit about the race.

Sorry man but the mclaren is RWD, not AWD. Pretty sad somebody wrote an article clueless about a car like that and calling it AWD.

It is 100% RWD. One of my coworkers has one and I have driven it numerous times. The car spins the rear tires with ease in the lower gears That article is wrong.

That is so cool... My dad is the same age as his dad and I can't imagine him going that fast on the drag strip.

I probably wouldn't let him drive my McLaren either...
