I love both of them, the 1le is an awesome vehicle, and I like it because of the less complexity of the moving parts, I love the zl1 becasue of the technology it employs, either car is a win imo

if you can afford the zl1 then that'd be the better choice.

One of my co-workers is having some issues with his ZL1, he's about to lemon law it. Supercharger bearings have lost all their grease and it sounds like a can full of marbles. Dealer keeps telling him it's normal. Rear differential makes horrendous groaning noises when turning, they changed the fluid and the problem persists. I think his car has been at the shop for about 3 months total since he bought it a year ago.
You should probably check the ZL1 forums to find out the issues that model can be susceptible to. |

Research both cars thoroughly, and then do a financial analysis of your budget to see which one will make a better fit in terms of expense.
Make your choice on the car you want the most and/or the one that will meet all of your needs the best.

On the ZL1, it's simply a warranty claim issue. Either way sucks, but at least you're not stuck with ANOTHER bill.

If you can afford the ZL1, you're going to kick yourself in a few months if you get the 1LE.
I think the 1LE is a fantastic car, but the ZL1 is superior and you can think of it like a modded 1LE with a good warranty. In my opinion, the ZL1 looks much better as well. The front bumper, grill, hood, etc all look better than the 1LE and the ZL1 is just insanely powerful. Get the ZL1 and you'll have a lot of piece of mind and won't have any regrets that you didn't pick the more powerful car.

If I had the cash it's be a zl1. Heck even the c7 since you have the cash, but if you have to keep with a muscle car then the zl1.

Can you truly afford the ZL1 over the total term of the loan?
Are you looking at both new or willing to go used on a ZL1? If you can swing a ZL1 go that route. I maybe in the minority here, but I think a 2014 1LE with the redesign front is better looking compared to the current ZL1 front end. I'm hopeful the ZL1 in 2015 gets a front end refresh but I don't think that's going to happen. I drive about 70 miles round trip for work averaging 20mpg in my 1LE, I can get a free value meal daily for what the additional gas would cost to do it in a ZL1. |

The real question are you going to want to modify it? And if you do to what extent?

ZL1
Late last year I was set on buying a new ZL1 but couldn't get my budget & wife to be happy. My next option would have been a 1LE but they do not offer it in automatic, which I need due to a motorcycle accident over 30 yrs ago. So I "settled" on a black 2014 2SS. To date, I have some minor mods: Catch can, CAI, Hi Flow cats, full cat back sys. Eventually, I will add a Procharger so I can have my own version of a ZL1. Maybe not all the bells and whistles, but it will have more RWHP & TQ than a stock ZL1.....but it also won't have a factory warranty. |

A ZL1 vs SS debate... There's something new. At least it's not an SS vs v6 debate, those get old quick.
