How many 2014 ZL1's will there be?
Does anyone know this answer? I'd love to know how rare/common my car is.

Loaded question. Do you mean is it going to be worth money one day? Not like a true collectible. Do you mean how many will you see in your home town? That depends, not that many in Canada would be my guess, but in the bigger cities or more wealthy areas they'll be more prevalent. I live in a town of 90,000 or so, not too big. I had my car for about 6 months before I ever saw another ZL1, and even then I had to fly to Miami to see it. Since then 2 more that I know of have moved to town and there is a used one for sale at the local dealership.
Here's an answer, how many 13's did they make? My guess would be about that many 14's as well.

There will be far fewer 2014's than 2013's.
Check this out... my 2013 was built on 11/30/2012 and is #4317. On the ZL1 registry a 2014 was built on 11/31/2013 and is #1400. Then there was the two month hold on orders just past on 2014's. Now do the math. How many 2014's will there be?

For all we know 14 could be the trickle down yr till they stop in 15..Cafe is going to kill a lot of these high HP cars..
So the truth is only GM know's,and for all we really know is that right now cars dont jump in value that much, based on past yrs... But what if in 2025 CAFE has completely killed most of the high HP street cars, and in order to get something like this its a huge tax and either not worth buying or building..when they lay down some crazy laws about building Avg MPG of 50 or 60 due to the fact that 65 million new cars are put on the roads every yr world wide now,its not far off.. and thats not commercial vehicles either. so if you think about 65 million cars 7k ZL1's are some what rare world wide

If anyone hasn't noticed, ZL1's are NOT selling like hotcakes.
Many reasons, like a crappy economy, but nonetheless, it was a calculated move by GM to suspend production. Smart too. 2013s are still out there, why would dealers start ordering 2014 ZL1s without knowing they can sell them. I'm betting most are sold orders, not for floor samples. My guess would be probably around 1/2 of what the 13 production was. I'll say 3900. Rare does not always equate to collectible, however. Don't get wrapped up in the production numbers so much. Just go enjoy!!!!

Mine was built last week. Number 1300 and change. I'd guess less than 2500

I agree that low production numbers do not necessarily mandate future value as collectible cars. That said, we're likely looking at total production numbers for three years of the Gen5 ZL1 model thusfar (12-14) of about 14,000...not a bad estimate in my view. One more model year to go before the 6th Gen car, with the market for our ZL1s becoming smaller. GM produced 20,302 Z/28s in 1969, and I think that we'd agree that today, they are rare, collectible and valuable... The current ZL1 as a musclecar is the most powerful and performance-versatile Camaro ever built, and likely will remain so. History then may just repeat itself. And yes, I'm relating our ZL1 much more closely to the 1969 Z/28 than to the current Z28 for reasons that make sense to me. |
