There is a record kept that can be pulled in the even of an accident, but it is covered under (I think) privacy laws. It has speed, brake force, maybe a couple other things.

Someone with better search-fu than I might be able to find it.

I doubt GM would be this anal about the warranty, but I know every time you bring a Porsche in to the dealer for an oil change they check to see if you've ever hit the rev limiter, and if you have they will void your warranty, even if there's nothing broken. They'll void it for future use.

Although, they print this in big, bold font in their owners manual, so you do know what you're getting yourself into.

Disclaimer: I don't know about the new Camaro. But on most GM cars, it would only store the RPM or other data if there is some kind of malfunction...for example it might store a "freeze frame" of data like speed, RPM, temperature at the time of the malfunction, but it would not set a code for just hitting the rev limiter a little bit. But then again if you miss a shift and the thing revs to 10,000 RPM, that might be severe enough to cause a code to be set.

So why don't set the rev limiter lower?

Yes they can. As soon as you hit 6,500 rpm, the fuel pump shuts down. I've done it a few times already.

Why does the RPM go up to 9K? No not being a smartass just curious. Why didn't they just limit it to 6.5 or 7k ?

This car has something called a BCM. It keeps track of everything the driver has done with the car (RPMs, top speed, idle time, etc).

Because you can tune the fuel cut-off to anywhere you want. I will be moving mine up the rpm range to take advantage of the hp the car has. You can even tune the fuel cut-off out if you want and then you can rev her till she blows.

On Star won't do anything unless you report the car stolen. The information is just being stored, that's all.

Thanks for the info,I didnt blow up the car.I left the car with dealer to get repaint, for 10 days,25 days later i got the car back today, 125 miles more the car had on odometer Paint job not good .Told dealer to keep the car, took the plate off and left. The reason i ask the rpm question was to see if they beat on the car
