Isn't this the same car as before with the power steering failure? Old news I believe.

Not sure ? but I do not see how it could have a power steering failure,is there not a safety back up ? I just do not see a car on the road they has electric steering that does not have a way to steer in case of power failure, makes no sense, but i have not looked into the system that deep..It may not be old news to everyone..I had not heard of it...
What i believe happened if that's what the driver claimed ,is that he was playing around lost control and blamed the system,is more like it..

Read this thread, as that guy wasn't the only one who reported the same issue.

I think electric power assist is the dumbest thing ever!
we have had used fluid for steering for yrs, it has been used for just about every part of the car at one time or another,I also understand that it helps with weight ,and and that helps when cars have other systems added which were not in cars from yrs past, but I for one say just give me my old power steering pump back. If it leaks at least i have a warning before the failure happens....

the electric steering can be fully programmable to change the feel and responsiveness under different conditions just like they can with the mag ride shocks. Fully tunable. It also reduces the load on the engine. The engine no longer has to turn the power steering pump. |

Thats a whole completely different system, with at least 20 different parts replacing one carb...As rack N pinion steering has been around for yrs all they did was add a geared motor that you can control the amount of assist it gives..By either increasing or decreasing the Voltage to it.. But I understand you meant that it was a advancement in technology, or at least it seem that way.. I understand its all about fuel mileage, and being tune-able ,as it just take a lap top if the program allows it... Racers have been tuning power-steering for yrs with different size pulleys ,so that just takes a belt and a pulley to change, although much slower, and requires several parts.... I still would rather have a power steering pump,as they are much cheaper, have a much better track record plus fluid systems are much stronger than electric system's. The power steering fluid can be used as part of a cooling system And when used under heavy loads it can power other things on the vehicles.... They both serve a purpose
