I might try the varram CAI with shorty headers and catback exhaust, when they are all available and get a dyno run again to verify results, would like the 40 HP/ 40 torque as a target.

I would have considered Viraram, but I needed to get the car tuned after putting on the headers and just could not wait any longer. Hope you get the results you want. From what I have read you should not expect too much from shorty headers. I have not had any direct experience with them however. I plan on going to Starlite in Wexford 8/7 for the car cruise. Camaro week. Stop down. I think there will be a few Camaro5 members with 5th gen's there.

I am amazed that the L99's are pulling as low a nimber as they are. My 2005 GTO with an LS2 (that's 6.0 liters, not 6.2) and A4 pulled 333 hp before a tune and 351hp after -NO headers, only an X pipe, CAI and Magnaflow mufflers only. This L99 with headers was 10 hp more stock than my GTO? Vector Motorsports did my tune and they have a Mustang Dyno. There is no doubt the headers are helping but the factory tune on these cars is awful. What's interesting is that headers only give us LS2 guys about 20 hp.

Everyone seemed to be expecting that there would be a 15 to 20 percent loss through the drive in the L99, but Bryan who tuned my car said he is seeing 22%. Not good. The factory tune does seem bad too, which adds to the loss. And I have to say I was disappointed with the factory HP and torque numbers. But a tune does seem to help a lot. A stock L99 can see a gain of 40 ftlbs of torque just with a tune. I don't remember the HP gain off the top of my head, but it was not as much as the torque.

Yup... I got pushed over the edge last week when I drove a guys L99 with tune. OMG what a HUGE difference.
Even chirps the tires going to 2nd (didn't try 3rd since it was his car) That would be perfect too. He left his AFM on but I wonder if you can set it for speed...![]() These were some nice gains and it seems to be repeated with everyone... good news...

So with headers and an intake...and a tune we make what an ls3 makes stockish? Thats sad. Im starting to feel scammed by the l99. I may be bringing this car back for a 2011 ls3.

No... you surpass what the LS3 makes at the crank. Auto is always going to lose more HP at the wheels... but I guarantee you'll get more out of your tune than a LS3 will.

According to GM the L99 is faster than the LS3 0-60 MPH. The L99 has variable timing and lower gears. Melee is right from what is being seen from tunes. The L99 is getting more from a tune. I think it is to be seen which is better in the long run. Might be fun competition.

You don't understand the difference between an auto and a manual. Race a stock LS3 M6 Camaro against an L99 A6 Camaro with long tubes, intake, and a tune. Even though they may make the same rwhp, the automatic will win that race pretty much everytime. Both cars modded and tuned (bolt ons) With 20 rwhp less, my 06 A4 (auto) GTO ran consistantly faster times at the track than my 05 M6 (manual) GTO. So you can't compare apple to apples when looking at rwhp (auto vs manual). |

True, but I don't feel like I have to... and I am not going to right away. The tune I described will never come from GM and I see why it would void a warranty. Hard on the transmission, but boy is it fun.

if GM is offering headers and exhaust and a CAI what are they expecting? do they expect HP and torque GAINS? if so whether you have a L99 that is at 305/300 or 325/327 (prior to a tune) they both will have GAINS, so what GAINS do not void the warrenty? if the gains on a healthy L99 are 40/40 we have 365/367 so that's still under warrenty. So now you take your sick L99 and have a TUNE only and have 327/342 and that is not covered under warrenty?
