The math is usually in their favor, which is why these insurance plans exist.

What I'm curious about is the experience of the members here and if they would rate the Gen5 as reliable. Any cause to be concerned with using my Camaro as a daily driver, averaging 20k+ miles annually?
skip the extended warranty.
the material they used to build the Camaro is as good as those of the corvettes.

you don't need it.

if you get those extended warranty on purchase, it would most likely increase your monthly payment amount.

To each their own but I highly disagree with forum members suggesting that no one needs an extended warranty. Everyone's situation is unique and to some people, extended warranties can be & are very useful. Most folks will never have an accident either, that does not mean the coverage to repair or replace your car isn't needed by anyone in case your car is wrecked. I work in sales, my car is modified and I demanded Major Guard. Working in this industry I see bad cars all the time. Cars are machines built by people and are very capable of going wrong.

My suggestion is do your own research and make an informed decision based upon the research.

One suggestion to the OP before deciding to drop it. Check out the problems/issues section, see how many of them that may crop up after the warranty expires. Then you can judge if you want to take the chance without it.

Good luck.

Do your homework: While the numbers are in favor of the warranty company (exactly like how "the house always wins" in Vegas), some are more so than others. Back when I was young and dumb, I'd purchased a bumper- to- bumper extended warranty on a used car... however, when I finally sat down and read the details, "bumper- to- bumper" had a few exclusions: anything electrical, hydraulic, brake- related, body/ frame- related, accessories, interior, exterior, wheels, axles, suspension... it seemed that the only thing actually covered might be the alternator. Oh, wait... that's electrical.

Another case in point I learned while living in a small military town in Kansas. The vast number of dealerships there were placed solely to take advantage of fresh recruits, wet behind the ears, drawing their fist paycheck ever. All of the dealerships there sold used cars, all with warranties. I read the warranty details: For 90 days, the dealership would cover 10% of the PARTS cost of INTERNAL engine parts that were proven to have failed... but not the labor, of course. Yes, 10% of internal engine parts cost only...

So, read those details...

Yeah the details include a healthy list of exclusions which is why I started to think about ditching it.

Thanks for all the replies. I have an email address I can use to contact the company to cancel. Problem is the dealer is shuffling their feet on notifying the company of my policy (called and I wasn't on file yet), so I may need to be inconvenienced and go there to get it cancelled. :-/

Here is a example of what and extended warranty would cover.

And what they will not

I've worked in Chevrolet dealerships for almost 20 years now and I can tell you from experience that an extended warranty is definitely worth it, depending on what you paid for the policy. But to me the piece of mind alone is worth it. If you bought a GMPP Major Guard then you've got the top of the line policy that will cover just about everything other than maintenance items, damage, soft trim, glass, air and water leaks.

My headlights are starting to get condensation in them now and I'm at 42,000 miles... right now I really wish I would've gotten an extended warranty, lol. Lessons of life, indeed.

Speaking from experience:

1. Do not buy any extended warranty except for the factory one (in this case GMPP)
2. The decision to buy is based on how long you are going to keep the car.
3. The GMPP plan has so many different mileage/time plans you can get one to cover your situation even if you are planning to keep the car 5 years.
4. The powertrain warranty does not cover items attached to the engine, like an alternator, power steering pump, etc. Many people think things are covered under powertrain and they aren't.
5. Shop around, there are plenty of GM dealers that sell the warranties for cost. An extended warranty that would cover my Camaro for a total of 7 years or 70,000 miles, 0 deductible, would cost me less than $1200, and thats a GMPP plan from a Chevy dealer. I have a post somewhere on the forum here that shows the costs and all the mileage/time variables.

We have a 2007 Avalanche LTZ with the autoleveling suspension. Both front shocks went out, because they have sensors on them these things are about $750 a piece. Replaced under extended warranty, 0 deductible. That warranty cost us $1300, so I'm already money ahead and the truck had under 70,000 miles on it when it happened and we never beat on that truck.

If you were only keeping the car 4 or 5 years, I would probably roll the dice. Longer than that, I would get the warranty.
